Earlier today, it was announced that Rodney Marsh, one of the all-time great wicket keepers had died at the age of 74 following a heart attack. It has now been announced that Shane Warne, who made his name by dismissing a bewildered Mike Gatting with what was described as the ball of the century, has also died aged just 52. A truly dark day for Australian cricket.

Very sad news Couldn't believe it when I heard about Shane Warne, 52 is no age.

Very sad news and I'm totally shocked at the news about Shane Warne. R.I.P. to both Rod Marsh and Shane Warne

RIP. Two Australian cricketing legends whom I've spent a fair amount of time listening to on TMS, and watching when they were out in the middle. Awfully sad news

Shocked to hear the sad news about Warney. Just finished reading an unauthorised bio about him.

Shane Warne was part of my childhood. He was the ultimate cricket player in my eyes and completely unplayable at times. He’ll be greatly missed 🙁

I couldn't believe the news when I saw the notification on my phone. The fact that I hated him, Adam Gilchrist (his "well bowled Shane" remarks behind the stumps) and Glenn McGrath in their prime just showed how good all 3 of them were, especially during the Ashes series. He would make things happen even if the conditions were not spin friendly conditions. Very shocking news and cricket has lost a iconic figure. RIP Warney

Such a shock to hear the news about Shane Warne today and just a day after Rod Marsh...
Shane Warne's "Ball of the Century":
Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy wrote a song about it for his cricket-based side project The Duckworth Lewis Method, called "Jiggery Pokery", sung from the perspective of Mike Gatting:
