If ever there was a thread for me! Fallen down a total YouTube rabbit warren over the past couple of years 'Ask A Mortician' is a current favourite - a bit (okay, very) dark and needs massive trigger warnings for death, dead bodies, funerals, embalming and all that fun stuff - but if you're comfortable with it, there's a lot of great content. Caitlin Doughty is a mortician and author who uses her platform to raise awareness of planning for your death and thinking about things like the type of burial you want, how much funerals cost, etc. Her channel is a mixture of long-form videos covering topics ranging from 'what happened to Titanic's dead?', the true story behind Moby Dick and the Salem Witch Trials to America's forgotten vampire panic, books bound in human skin and a series unpacking Walt Disney's obsession with death. There are also lots of shorter videos covering everything you (n)ever wanted to know about death, funerals and the mortician's craft. (She also has a video reacting to famous film corpses, because of course she does.) She's clearly very knowledgeable and has a highly watchable presenting style, serious with lashings of dark humour. Definitely not one for the squeamish, but if you can stomach the subject matter and are interested in knowing more about death through history, I can recommend this channel. This was her most recent video in which she collaborated with some historical photography experts to recreate 19th-century 'spirit photographs': photos in which a living sitter could be made to look as though the spectre of a deceased relative was standing behind them.

I have never really gotten into YouTube channels, other than this (which is now striking whilst the iron is cold for a follow up unless the BBC are holding back on something).
I really wouldn’t know where to start otherwise!

I've subscribed to a lot of University channels, particularly the schools of international politics. It's one of the things I can pop on in the corner of my screen while I work.
I find this sort of content super interesting and just don't get bored of it, but a lot of the time it's very one-sided. Now and again they'll bring out content in more of a debate format which is preferable. I've bought a couple of Mearsheimer books after catching a few of his lectures and finding most of what he says agreeable.

bald and bankrupt
OK, todays YouTube channel that I watch regularly is a travel vlog by a man named Benjamin, he speaks Russian and travels around the old Soviet Union, he interacts with locals, tells their story, tracks down old Soviet gems. His vlogs are pretty educational, fascinating and shows a different side to the Soviet Union. He has also travelled to South America, Cuba, India and made some interesting content there too especially Cuba and Bolivia, he often does collaborations with his mate that lives in Ukraine and he was caught in Ukraine when the Russian invasion happened so his latest video is pretty interesting and you can find it pretty easily on his channel but I find his weird and wacky visits to places like Albania interesting, there's a bit of history in there, its one of the biggest travel vlogs on YouTube now

MrBallen
I mentioned his podcast elsewhere but MrBallen also has a very successful YouTube channel too that is well worth checking out, and with just over 6.5m subscribers and just under 1 billion views his channel is blowing up. John B Allen, better known online as MrBallen, is an American former Navy Seal whose content is focused on talking about true crime cases and other mysteries in a story format, so if you like anything strange, dark and mysterious, I would check out his YouTube channel, he has about 160 videos on Youtube but be warned if you watch one you might end up down a rabbit hole and watch them all like me

I found a huge terrarium on the side of the road a few days ago, much bigger than the one I already had, so I've mainly been watching people build habitats online to try and decide what I want to do with it This guy has the one I'd like to emulate the most - and I also want to get some vampire crabs like he has

^ That inspired my next pick! (Vampire crabs are so cool!) At some point in 2020, I became very interested in the idea of keeping some kind of pet lizard. I've always thought they were pretty awesome, but had never really considered keeping them as pets before. Then I happened upon a video of someone with a pet Argentine black and white tegu and just fell in love with them I started obsessively watching reptile-keeping videos on YouTube and one of the very best out there is Clint's Reptiles. Clint Laidlaw is a biologist, lecturer and reptile expert who does a lot of work educating people about reptiles, supporting responsible ownership and supporting the hobby (which is not without its controversies, particularly in the US where escaped or released reptiles wreak havoc on their local environment). He has a regular series called 'The Best Pet...' where he reviews different animals and assesses them on various criteria - handleability, care, availability, hardiness and upfront cost - to help people decide if a particular animal is for them. Most of these are on various reptiles, as you'd expect, but he's also reviewed arthropods, birds (which, as you'll hear if you watch those videos, are dinosaurs!) and some mammals, including his own kids He also does the occasional review of terrariums and videos about different set-ups which was what made me think of him after Roo.'s recommendation. As an added bonus, Clint is one of the most infectiously enthusiastic and cheerful YouTubers on my subscription list, which makes his new uploads something to look forward to when the news gets you down. On the subject of Argentine black and white tegus, here is Clint's review of his own pet, Gus-Gus, who is adorable (and a very good boy).

Ordinary Sausage
Ha, I have been watching this guy for a few year now, imagine Peter Griffin cooking anything and everything to make the most un-ordinary sausages, then taste test them, throw in a sing song, calamitous attempts to cook, a Mark Ruffelo based rating system and the odd song song and you have Ordinary Sausage
