A team called Darvel have beaten Aberdeen (the last team other than Celtic and Rangers to win the Scottish title) in the Scottish Cup.

Truly shocking result for Aberdeen, Darvel are in the 6th tier. They'd be in the 5th tier if the powers-that-be in Scotland could actually get their heads around how a pyramid should work in terms of promotion and relegation but because there's only one guaranteed promotion spot across six 6th tier divisions, there's a bit of a bottleneck.

My son was trying to say biggest cup shock ever, but that was when the plucky Berwick Rangers beat the mighty Glasgow Rangers 1-0 in 1967! Darvel had hammered a couple of other non league teams and then beat Montrose before this, astounding result, and home to Falkirk in the next round! Assume based on the Scottish "pyramid" that Darvel would go into the Lowland League? Maybe if they got rid of the Rangers, Celtic and Hearts B teams from that league, then that would free up a bit of space for up and coming "junior" teams?
Oh and in other news, Everton sacked Lampard, Dyche for the job?

Problem is, there's one promotion spot for three leagues so the winners of the East of Scotland, South of Scotland and West of Scotland Leagues go into a 3-way playoff at the end of the season. Darvel missed out to Tranent Juniors last season.

Man City charged with 101 breaches of PL rules for their financial doping, with no limits to the potential punishments - they could get transfer bans, points deducted, titles stripped or even relegated.

Or more than likely, nothing as their lawyers will fight it? Do the other top teams just have better accountants, because if one team is at it, I'm pretty sure another 5-10 will be as well in the PL.

Ridiculous that it has taken 5 years to even get to this point.

It's how they're overspending though. Man City are basically (allegedly) making up their entire income by doing things like creating fake sponsorship deals which are a mask for their owners pumping billions into the club.
UEFA caught them years ago and banned them from European competition but it was overturned on appeal by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after a process which definitely did not involve any bribery in any way, shape or form.
Chelsea's current spending spree apparently features a lot of "buy now, pay later" which allows them to play the FFP system somewhat by spreading their expenditure out over a long period of time.

About time there was a whole shake-up all around football. Fed up of teams buying success.
I really hope Arsenal win the league this year.

frag were you secretly hoping Spurs would win on Sunday? (or maybe publicly hoping they would given it was helping your own team)

This exactly - it was plain to see ten years ago. I really hope they get the book thrown at them - a fine will make basically no difference. I don't think we'll see any resolution before the end of the season, though. As for Chelsea, their spending and contract lengths have been ridiculous - if they've already booked in Β£60-70m per season for the next eight years, I don't see how they can continue to spend like that under FFP.

Stripping them of all their league titles suits me. That makes Charlton Athletic the new League Champions of 1936-37.

Hopefully City get punished then but if Chelsea have done nothing wrong then the giant loopholes in FFP will just be exploited by teams like City instead if they get punished, it won't stop them, they can just do a Chelsea and spent 3x more than they already did and not break FFP rules lol

Think they were closing the loophole on the long contracts to 5/6 seasons rather than 10? But clubs will always find a way around the financial side to benefit their club.

Very sad news about former Newcastle player Christian Atsu. It has been confirmed that he has been found dead amonsgt the rubble of a collapsed building in Antakya, Turkey following the earthquake which hit Turkey and Syria two weeks ago. Early reports had indicated that he had been found alive a couple of days after the earthquake hit but these proved to be false. His body was found this morning.
