Just thought of another one:
Neil Tennant

Not really relevant now but back in the day, I found John Power's (Cast) voice rather grating.

Just thought of another one: Neil Tennant Oh, I can't believe I didn't think of him for this!

Just thought of another one: Neil Tennant My wife still screams at me, when she hears the Pet Shop Boys coming out of one of my speakers. She's hated them since the 80s, but I wouldn't switch them off, if they were on the radio.

Surprised not to see Axl Rose show up here, I thought he’s one of the usual suspects when this subject is being discussed. I think he’s great though.
I see Bob Dylan has been mentioned. The thing with him is that if you persevere, the quality of of his material leaves any discussion about his voice seeming quite superficial.

Agree with Neil Tennant.
Ian Dury is another one for me.

going back to the 50s, of all the various singers I encountered, David Whitfield, and how many weeks was he number one?

Neil Tennant may not have the strongest voice, but the quality and the production of his early material far outweighs that for me - especially 'It's a sin', which I can't imagine anybody else singing half as well!

Oh I don't think he's not a good singer. His voice just grates on me something rotten!

Yeah, I remember as a young child in the early 70s, when we used to get to play my grandmother's records, we would push David Whitfield & Josef Locke to one side, before playing all the rest.

Stormzy's voice is one that grates like hell on me. I'll never get his appeal.

going back to the 50s, of all the various singers I encountered, David Whitfield, and how many weeks was he number one? He was the first X Factor charter, he had won Opportunity Knocks when it was a radio show because he had done some singing in the navy. Therefore there was this whole "working class lad from Hull doing opera" vibe to his promotion.
Pretty dreadful voice, I agree. Which demonstrates just how much the studio technicians have improved over the years...

Frankie Laine had a pretty awful voice. I actually think Robson & Jerome sang 'I Believe' much better than him.

Talking of studio techs. One told me once that it took hours to get "Unchained Melody" down because Robson & Jerome had such mediocre voices.

Really I think she is boring and overrated but her voice is alright just dull. Radio 1 think she is the best thing I just don’t get it.

Another vote for Neil Tennant.
First name that came to my mind was Bonnie Tyler - I loved Total Eclipse & Holdin' Out For a Hero. Heard them too many times now though. Can't take her voice on anything else.
