Of course, I'll be posting the sign up thread this weekend so everyone has plenty of time to see it over the Xmas period before it all gets started in the New Year.

There have been a couple of comments in the Haven Factor 11 thread about an edition for lesser known acts. It was a suggestion I floated a while back. I have some ideas about format and rules, but I don't want to distract people from Roo.'s enthralling and superbly run current edition of Haven Factor, so I won't say any more now. However, I would like to say that I'm willing to host the first edition of Haven Factor Express later this year, if there is sufficient support, and Smurfie can find a suitable window in our schedule.

Would this also be applicable to acts who are well known but don't have enough songs to enter in a regular Haven Factor?

A one-hit wonder who everyone's heard of, for example, would be suitable.

I've got a couple of acts in mind, so I may enter if they fit the bill, good idea.

I thought of a concept for a game, where each round is a different artist or band - and every player must submit a song by that artist. Then the player with the least points at the end of the round is automatically eliminated.
However, the player with the most points in a round gets to choose the artist for the next round. Then the other players will have a day to get their songs in (in case they need to do some research into said artist!)
It wouldn't all be plain sailing though, as there would be opportunities along the way to gain extra points, or even give songs a minus score if you really don't like it! There is also no rules as to what order you place the songs in - so if you feel somebody has played something that has been overdone on these forums already then you would be welcome to mark them down! In other words, it's a game where anything can happen!
It's just a rough idea at the moment, but I thought I'd kick it around to see what people thought.

I like that idea! How would you address the inevitable rush for the big songs though? First come first served?

I thought about first come first served for the first round, and then if there were duplicates after that then whoever did better in the previous round could get preference. I like the idea in general. However, it might be more interesting to give the person in last place the first pick by the artist chosen by the leader, the person in second last the second pick, and so on, with the person who chose the artist having lowest priority on duplicates. The risk of the leader picking the artist and then having priority on duplicates is that the person who wins the first round has the opportunity to run away with the competition. For example, if I won the first round, I might pick Fiction Factory, and then nab (Feels Like) Heaven for round two. I'd probably still be in the lead for round three, so I'd pick M and Pop Muzik, which should extend my lead even further, and so on.

The person in last place would be knocked out of the contest, but I would be happy for the person second to last to have priority, and so on, as you say.
This was one of the reasons I was going to try and work in some twists along the way too, to try and make it so the biggest songs weren't always guaranteed the most points. There are a lot of things to iron out though if it does ever happen.

If you got knocked out, but as a consolation prize could pick the act for the next round that could be fun too...

Perish the thought I imagine we could put some kind of rule in place quite easily to limit 'joke'/super obscure acts.
