So...
...in order to make Sam Smith happy, all women have been thrown out of the main awards.

I see Rina has been snubbed altogether after not being considered British enough last time I'm blind, ignore me.

She's nominated for Best New Artist? Oops, missed that. Not sure how she's considered a new artist though, unless it's because she wasn't eligible previously? It's often been a bit of a loose term. Self Esteem was nominated last year even though it was her second album.

I'm all for any moves towards inclusivity, but as had been mentioned with the Oscars last year, looking at voting patterns, none of the female actors would have made it to the final category had they merged the two, as the male roles were more high profile and drew bigger chunks of the votes. I'm not trying to directly compare film and music, but it's a shame that in only the second year of this new category, we end up with all male nominees. One wonders (given these things are all fixed!) why someone like Rina or Wet Leg weren't given a place in that five so that these kind of accusations of wokery-gone-wrong could be avoided.

So now non-binary and/or trans people get the blame for sexism and misogyny? For the fact that women are not treated as equals?
The fact that women need a separate category at all to get a look in is the problem.

I'm not against gender neutral categories per se but they made a big mistake last year by only having five nominees and thereby turning something that was intended to be more inclusive into something that actually meant fewer artists got recognised. That's gone a step further this year with the all-male lineup.

The all-male line-up this year is a result of inequality already rife in the industry, and actually society at large. The nominees are actually quite representative of how things have been this year.
I don't see the point in only getting p*ssed off about it during awards season, and directing that frustration at people like Sam Smith for no good reason whatsoever.

Most nominations are just place holders or tokenism anyway , it’s clear in most rounds who is going to get it and Harry Styles is a shoo in in the artist category.
Nova Twins are great but they haven’t had that much success yet and yes they got best new band in Kerrang but how often do we Kerrang’s best new band nominated for a Brit. I hope this means more recognition for metal but I suspect not…

Oh I know Wet Leg are a band, but the term "artist" is so meaningless, it may as well also mean a duo or band, so why not lump everyone in together?

And it's not like Sam Smith had enough clout to change the way the Brits work or else Adele might have had enough clout to change things back.

I expect Harry Styles and Taylor Swift will do very well this year, the 2 biggest albums of the year

Who would you have added to the list? I wouldn't have had one category. So you can't name any. Why shouldn't male and female artists compete against each other? There are good reasons why male and female sprinters have separate races. There is no good reason why there should be separate women's events for things like chess or backgammon.
