Can somebody explain the point of this new phenonemon to me please, because I really don't get it!
It's like when you used to accidentally play vinyl on the wrong speed. I can't imagine why anybody would choose to purchase a song that was done like this deliberately.

This needs to be moved to the Moan thread. But no. I don’t get it either, but I’m 47 so not a barometer of fingers on pulses, but generally they are all bad nor am I on Tik Tok either, so guess it’s just a way of squishing in a message within the shortest time possible. However, Scooter did this a long time before, and those of us of a certain age slowed down Kylie singles so they sounded like Rick Astley. Either way, I chose to ignore it. It’s not my generation to listen to it.

Again can't see the appeal and not of the demographic where I might be able to offer suggestions. As far as I'm concerned it belongs in the same circle of Hell as chipmunk vocals and excessive ukuleles.

The beginning of "Spaceman" by Babylon Zoo has it sped up, and I think that little clip was in a commercial and some people bought it based on that and then were disappointed when it slowed down to be an indie rock anthem.
Although it stayed at #1 for 5 weeks and by the end of that I'm sure most of those who bought it knew exactly what it sounded like.

I used to play Crash by The Primotives speeded up at discos in the late 80s, and it always went down a storm.
Music is a creative art, and therefore people should be encouraged to play around with its form. More often than not the results won't be appealing to many people, but sometimes something rather good emerges.
Go for it. If it is genuinely good, it will break out from TikTok into the mainstream.

On Audacity you can speed up music without also changing its pitch. When I made my "mock" Top of the Pops episodes for the summer of 1980 (which I did in the summer of 2015), I sped up a few songs by 10% to get the whole show to fit into the appropriate time. www.dropbox.com/s/ddojr24p34obkj4/TOTP_1980_07_10.mp4?dl=0check out when "Cupid" is on as an example.
