#20. Dead Or Alive - My Heart Goes Bang (Get Me To The Doctor) (1985 UK #23)
Pete Burns really did struggle to get those chart positions, other than the obvious one (but even that took a while!). When you get songs of this calibre it does make you wonder why the public didn't warm to them as much as some of the other artists on the label.

I personally love You Think You’re A Man - especially the extended remix. I’m So Beautiful not so much. Yeah, I wasn't so keen on that one either.

#19. Kylie & Jason - Especially For You (1988 #1)
The duet everyone wanted! OK so not everyone, but fans of Scott and Charlene on Neighbours were dying for confirmation that they were a couple in real life. It actually didn't make the #1 spot until early 1989, after sitting behind Cliff's 'Mistletoe & Wine' for the Christmas period in '88, and its longevity meant that Kylie's planned fifth single from her debut album, 'It's No Secret' was shelved. It's a simple little love song which has stood the test of time, and I can proudly say I was there in Hyde Park in 2018 when she got Jason on stage to share it with her once again - and that was an emotional moment I will never forget, I can tell you!

#18. Kylie Minogue - Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi (1988 UK #2)
This finishes as the highest song from Kylie's self-titled debut album, although I am regretting not including 'It's No Secret'. 1988 really was the Aussie soapstar's golden year, with a very impressive five top 2 hits. Despite being the fourth single from the album, this still managed three weeks at #2, only stuck behind Enya's magnificent 'Orinoco Flow'.

#17. Jason Donovan - Too Many Broken Hearts (1989 UK #1)
It took his duet with Kylie for him to really hit it off, but everything about this single was screaming success. The song was about as catchy as you can get, and Jason Donovan looked absolutely stunning in the video. There probably wasn't a young girl, or gay lad, in the land who didn't want a piece of the Aussie hunk! The song still stands up today I think as well.

"Especially For You" was my # 1 two times (also in 1999 year, when Denise Van Outen and Johnny Vaughan recorded a cover version, which was very similar to original).

#16. Bananarama - I Want You Back (1988 UK #5)
This uber-catchy hit was originally recorded by the original line-up of the group, and the version that featured on their 'Wow!' album, but after Siobhan left it was re-recorded to feature her replacement, Jacquie O'Sullivan - and this is the single version that most people know and love.

#15. Bananarama - Venus (1986 UK #8)
Every one of these songs is a bonafide classic now, and this cover of the Shocking Blue 1969 classic 'Venus' is no exception. It's hard to pick a favourite version of the song as they are both brilliant in their own way, and the public obviously agreed as they both peaked at the same position of #8 in the UK.

#14. Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up (1987 UK #1)
I know, I know - This should be top ten at least, but I just couldn't let any of the other 13 songs go yet! This song, and Rick in general, are probably a lot more accepted by the general public now than they were at the time - or for a long time after. It's just a great pop song really, and doesn't pretend to be anything else.

#13. Sinitta - Cross My Broken Heart (1988 UK #6)
This being so high may divide people, but I don't care - it's my favourite Sinitta song, which I loved then and I still love now! There awas another song out the same year, which was just called 'Cross My Heart' by Eighth Wonder, which was also brilliant - but I've no idea if it was inspired by this or not!

#12. Hazell Dean - They Say It's Gonna Rain (1985 UK #58)
This one should've been huge! Well it was in South Africa where it reached the #1 spot, but I don't know what happened here, maybe it wasn't heavily promoted or something because it has got massive hit single written all over it. To be fair, Hazell's popularity had already waned by the time this was released - and I think she was lucky to get a resurgence three years later, but that's another story.

#11. Donna Summer - I Don't Wanna Get Hurt (1989 #7)
The former Queen of Disco had had not much success since the early part of the 80s, apart the rather brilliant 'Dinner With Gershwin', which had been a top 20 hit in 1987, so she was ripe for a comeback. This was her second single with S/A/W, and like the first is perfect for Donna's silky vocals.

Sod it, I'm going to start the top ten.....
#10. Mel & Kim - Respectable (1987 #1)
A respectable finish for the Appleby sisters' biggest hit, both on the official chart and on mine. They enjoyed just one week at the top, and then spent a couple of weeks behind S/A/W's charity single by Ferry Aid - which I actually don't mind, but it didn't make it into my top 60. Just as a footnote - if Kim Appleby had stayed with the hit producers, then 'Don't Worry' would have ended up even higher than this! Now let's tay-tay-tay-tay-tay-take a look at what's number nine....

#9. Kylie Minogue - Better The Devil You Know (1990 #2)
Only 'Never Too Late' prevented this from being Kylie's tenth top 2 hit with 10 singles, but sadly it WAS too late to rectify that. But never mind, because 'Better The Devil' was a total banger - and if it hadn't been for Adamski's total dance anthem 'Killer' then it would have spent 2 weeks at the top in the Spring of 1990.

#8. Sybil - When I'm Good And Ready ( 1993 UK #5)
I'm pretty sure this is the latest single on my contdown, to be released, and it's such a dance smash hit that it was always going to finish high. Sybil had come into prominence in the late 80s - first in 1987 when she had a minor hit with 'Let Yourself Go', and then in 1989 she had two hits, which were both covers of songs previously made famous by Dionne Warwick - 'Don't Make Me Over' and 'Walk On By'. 1993 was her biggest year, after teaming up with Stock and Waterman (Matt Aitken had left by that time) - with this being her final big hit.

#7. Hazell Dean - Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go) (1984 UK #4)
This total banger was the follow-up to Hazell's previous total banger 'Searchin'', which doesn't qualify for this list or it would be top 3 at least! It was also the first ever top ten hit for S/A/W. 'Searchin'' had been a real slow burner, taking almost a year to make it big, but it had obviously left the public wanting more because this was a far more instant hit.

#6. West End Featuring Sybil - The Love I Lost (1993 UK #3)
Sybil returned to the chart in 1993 and scored her biggest ever hit with her club version of a Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes soul record from 1973, aided by British DJ and producer West End. I have to say this is my favourite version of the song - I couldn't get enough of it at the time, and it still sounds amazing today.
