Very sad that another horse died in this year's race. I haven't seen the race back so I'm not sure what happened, other than the horse appeared to take a very heavy fall. The organisers have done lots in recent years to make the race safer, such as softening the fences and moving the start closer to the first fence, yet still, the fatalities that come as a direct result of a fall almost always seem to be happening on the first stretch of fences towards Becher's Brook. The only thing they haven't done yet is reduce the size of the field and maybe it's finally time to look at that as an option. Hill Sixteen's trainer Sandy Thomson has blamed his horse's fall on the protestors who delayed the race, saying the horse "became absolutely hyper" and "never took off" at the first fence.
Corach Rambler was ridden by Derek Fox and trained by Lucinda Russell - the same combination that won the race in 2017 with One For Arthur. The victory comes just weeks after One For Arthur died. Corach Rambler is also the first British-trained winner of the race since One For Arthur. Fox was only passed fit to ride on Saturday morning having been injured in a fall last week.
