Welcome one and all to the second HAVEN WORLD CUP!
The competition works like this:
There will be 16 participants, who will be split into four groups of four. This will be drawn at random. Each participant will choose three songs to play in the group stage, going head-to-head against someone in their group. Scoring is based on everyone voting on the 16 songs put forward for that round.
Example:
Participant A's song scores 200 points.
Participant B's song scores 150 points.
Participant C's song scores 100 points.
If Participant A is facing Participant B, A wins as they have a higher score. However, if Participant B is facing Participant C, B wins.
Who has chosen which song won't be revealed until the scores are announced for each round.
The winner of each match is awarded three points for the standings, with the loser receiving nothing. In the unlikely event of a draw, both participants are awarded one point. If two or more participants are tied in the standings, total points scored across the three matches will be used as the tie-breaker.
The knockout stages will work the same way as last year. The top 2 in each group will go into a knockout competition to determine the winner of the Haven World Cup and the top 8 positions. The bottom 2 in each group will go into a separate knockout bracket with the winner being awarded the Haven Bowl. It means all participants will have a song in every round and therefore, you will need to select six songs to play across the whole competition.
Each participant must choose an initial three songs to play in the group stage, in the order they are to be played. In order to keep the competition flowing and avoid any unnecessary delays, these three songs must be submitted at the same time. There is no limit on what you can choose - you can select ANY song as long as:
A) It hasn't been picked by someone else
B) It wasn't used in last year's Haven World Cup (I will post a list of songs used later)
The draw will take place once we reach 16 entries. After the draw, the window for submitting songs for the group stage will open. The window for submitting songs for the knockout stage will open when we reach the last set of group matches.
I aim to have the first round go up after Instrumental Idol has finished in about 3-4 weeks, so you have plenty of time to think about what you want to enter.
To recap:
In order to take part you will need to choose an initial three songs, then an additional song for each of the three knockout rounds, to be chosen before each round.
You can choose any song you want, as long as someone else hasn't chosen it first and it wasn't used in last year's competition.
Do not send your songs yet. Any that are sent will be ignored and you will have to send them again when the window for submitting songs is open.
To enter, post in the thread below or send me a PM. Entries are on a first-come, first-served basis, though priority will be given to anyone wishing to take part who didn't last year.
Finally, just like last year, when you enter, please select two colours to be used as your colour scheme throughout the competition.
Any questions, ask away.
