New Zealand win at the World Cup for the first time, with Hannah Wilkinson scoring the only goal 3 minutes into the second half and Ria Percival missed a late penalty. Former champions Norway will be very disappointed after a lethargic performance.

Advantage Australia after Canada were held by Nigeria. Christine Sinclair missed a penalty that would have made her the first player to score at six World Cups. Nigeria finished with 10 players after a stoppage time red card.

Never a penalty for me in the Australia game for the Sheilas or whatever their nickname is they kept using on the commentary. The Matilda stopped her run and so the Irish girl ran in to her while her eyes were on the ball. Harsh, but keeps the host fans interested.

England start with a win but the European champions were unconvincing against Haiti. Georgia Stanway's retaken penalty was the only goal and they had to rely on several vital saves from Mary Earps to stay ahead against the impressive debutants. Denmark won a tight encounter against China with a late goal and top the group on disciplinary record.

A dominant win for the Americans who are looking for a World Cup hat-trick, though they would have expected a bigger margin of victory.

It was a nervy start by England. I thought Haiti were good on the counter attack and were disciplined defensively, nullifying any threats and crosses made by England from the wings.
A nice starter for England though. I'd rather for them to sweat out a 1-0 victory rather than a 10-0 mauling.

Can I just ask what's the point in the ref telling us what the decision is, when it's the same as what the video screen used to do? It's just turning it into a circus.

If the referee actually explains the decision like the one in the Netherlands game currently being played, it's a good idea. But if all they say is "penalty" or "goal", it's pointless.

Sweden come from behind to beat South Africa with a 90th minute winner. This was the first match of the tournament in which both teams scored.

But as soon as they say the word penalty, anything else/explanation is drowned out by demented screaming anyway? I'll watch the highlights later in the Dutch game. The penalty that had to be retaken yesterday, she explained that the gk moved off her line, infringement or something, but it can all be done on the screen, and they're still doing that awful 3d thing with the offside where they remove every single player apart from off/onside and whoever was closest to playing them on/off. I much prefer our lines and seeing the full picture
