I have such a soft spot for Pablo Honey! Again not one I discovered until after I was already a committed fan but there are great songs on it, 'Stop Whispering', 'Anyone Can Play Guitar', 'Thinking About You', 'Prove Yourself'... I still even quite like 'Lurgy' lol. Does not deserve to be remembered only for 'Creep'.

Sleepwalking turned up then. I liked the whole album including Armchair Anarchist, but the other two hits both reached #1 in my chart.

Into the top 30 30 Urge Overkill - SaturationI may have mentioned I was a little late to Urge Overkill 'discovering' them through Pulp Fiction but my flatmate had this album and it turns out I already loved a couple of their songs. This was their fourth album and the big push for commercial success and it certainly does a great job of that." Positive Bleeding" and "Sister Havana" are both brilliant singles and the rest of the album is very strong as well, I will be shocked if they have a better record still to come. Although it was a big hit in Australia, it faled to crack the top 100 in the US reaching #146 there. 4/5

29 The Silencers - Seconds of PleasureI was not sure if The Silencers were still relevant to me in 1993 but thankfully their fourth album turned out to be damn good. "I Can Feel It" turned out to be their biggest hit yet and their second-biggest seller since their debut single 'Painted Moon'. It was a staple of BBC Scotland trail music and sports coverage for many years later. I had not heard this album in full until a few weeks ago and although not as brilliant as their first two records was a plesant surprise. This was also their second-biggest album reaching #52 in the UK. 4/5

28 Swervedriver - Mezcal HeadVery much relevant to me in 1993 though was the second album from this shoegaze rock band. And nevermind 1993, music like this is still my favourite genre 20 years later. Let by "Never Lose That Feeling" one of their best songs, it was later added to this record, we also had 'Duel' which was something special indeed, possibly one of the most progressive shoegaze track ever, so brilliant loud. Although the masters of prog shoegaze are still to come much, much higher. "Last Train to Satansville" isn't their best single but still great and there are no bad tracks on this album just not quite up there with some peers in general. The album reached #55 in the UK. 4/5

27 Depeche Mode - Songs of Faith and DevotionThis is their eighth album and my least favourite of their 86-98 era. This album and the next one were both heavily affected by Dave's drug years and this record in particular is darker and heavier than most of their output. The only lighter moment is the single 'Walking in My Shoes'. If you like the more goth tinged DM then there is plenty to love here like 'I Feel You' or 'In Your Room' or fan favourite 'Condemnation'. Thinking now this is a better record if you dip into it rather than play as a whole. Coming off the back of 'Violator' it was a chart topper everywhere and sold 4 million worldwide. 4/5

26 Pearl Jam - Vs.Their second album and this is arguably their definitive album. Yes I still prefer 'Ten' but this has just about every sound Pearl Jam do and will do, all on one album. We start off very heavy with 'Go' and 'Animal'. We have the ballad 'Daughter' and my favourite track the very Pearl Jam 'Dissident'. Side one of the album is much stronger and many of side 2 I was hearing for the first time hence why this is a bit lower than 'Ten', in time it could climb much higher. The record reached #1 in the US and #2 in the Uk selling 7 million in the US alone. Crazy numbers it 'only' sold 200000 copies here. 4/5

25 The Auteurs - New WaveSo many comparisons to Blur & Oasis and guess what. Auteurs were Brit Pop before either band, yes Pulp was doing this but the dumb reviews saying Auteurs 'chose' to follow Pulp, who were not really known at this point, rather than Oasis are so dumb, Oasis barely existed at this point. Auteurs are one of the first Brit Pop bands until they were not. Brit Pop day one is 'Showgirl' and I won't hear it any other way. Day 2 is 'Babies'. Ok mini rant re RYM done. So yes the debut album from indie rebel Luke Haines. Auteurs could have been massive, based on this record, it deserves to be regarded as one of the top 10 Brit Pop albums. But then he made album two, purely his choice, fame is not for everyone. MGMT of course did the same thing. So this is pure Brit Pop think The Kinks meets T Rex and it reached #35 in the UK. a high 4/5

24 Cocteau Twins - Four-Calendar CaféNot quite a comeback but 3 years between albums was regarded a long time still at this point. This was their seventh album and their most accessible yet, it has real songs with lyrics you can understand, even more so than 'Heaven Or Las Vegas'. 'Bluebeard' is one of their best ever songs, the whole album is great and oh just remembered not been mentioning albums I own very much nut this is teh only since 'Thirteen', my first Cocteau record, better late than never. I did get an old one later this same year. The record reached #13 in the UK and #78 in the US. 4/5

23 Manic Street Preachers - Gold Against the SoulTheir second album and the only album I do not own by the band. That is a strange thing, I do have all the singles though but I have been missing out, will need to get this one day. This is a much better album than I thought it would be. 'La Tristesse Durera (Scream to a Sigh)' is one of their absoluite best songs but the other singles were fine but not amazing. There is actually much better songs on this record but I still have to say, it is their weakest record of the 90s. I cannot see any of their upcoming albums missing the top 20 and at least two are bound to be top 10. The record reached #8 in the UK. 4/5

22 Sunscreem - O3A bit of a change of style. The debut album from the techno/house pop band. These album lists as I have already mentioned to show how much dance music I was into. Absolutely loved Pete Tong in this time. Sunscreem were one of my discoveries through his show. Sunscreem are the other side to the Crusty culture we had earlier on, this is the hardcore warehouse ravers. Sunscreem are another act that sit next to The Shamen although with more high energy female vocals from Lucia Holm. Sunscreem were actually big in the US and 'Love U More' was the first techno record to go top 40 there. That song is gorgeous in both its laidback and ravier versions. But this whole album has so many bangers Pressure, Broken English and Walk On. A couple of tracks have not aged well but it has enough rave nostalgia to still work 30 years later. The record reached #33 in the UK. 4/5

21 Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might SeeThe second album from the US alt-rock band. This is the highest climber on my list, the first to get 4 stars. I slept on Mazzy Star, I think I saw what was special about 'Fade Into You' but I never bought it. It is now one of my favourite songs of the 90s. Even based on that one song I thought this would be a top 100 album but the whole album is incredible. Some of the tracks are a little long and you really need to be in the right mood. I can see this getting a higher rating next time I play it, I actually did give it a 4.5 initially. The record reached #36 in the US and #68 in the UK. 4/5

Getting exciting now, top 20 time 20 Slowdive - SouvlakiThe second studio album from Slowdive and it is funny how time goes. Slowdive were a joke in 1993, ridiculed and abused in equal measure from the UK music press and look at them now, this album is regarded as a shoegaze classic second only to 'Loveless'. It has one of the highest ratings of 1993 on RYM. And yes it all rubbed off on me, I stayed away, well I came back in the 00s and I don't care I love them. Their new music is great as well. This is some of the most beautiful shoegaze you can ever here. The record reached #51 in the UK. 4/5

19 James - Laid
Their fifth album and one that I am getting into more and more.I think this is quite a few people's favourite James album but it was the one that started me going off them when they were one of my favourite bands up to this point. I never liked 'Laid' the song, I don't know why, which didn't help. Playing it back again for the second time in a few years and it's excellent and I was very harsh on it at the time. I even don't mind 'Laid; the single anymore. It reached #3 in 1993.

18 St Etienne - So ToughThe second studio album from St Etienne and it is quite a different beast from the debut. This is one of those albums you can only appreciate as a whole. The album mixes of the popular singles are more downbeat and chilled. It is filled with samples and clever quotes and even has a track that samples Rush!! I would play the single version of 'You're In a Bad Way' every time but it is quite fun to experience this very 60s kitsch record. It reached #7 in 1993. 4/5

17 The Cranberries - Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?This is where their debut should be, it was way too long on my 90s list. This is possibility a certain person's favourite. I loved this band so much at the time especially the single 'Dreams'. I even saw them live, I think they had Sultans Of Ping supporting them, they won't be on this list hehe. I dont think they do anything better than this debut and c'mon how many bands have a song like 'Linger' on their debut. The album reached #1 in the UK and #18 in the US.

16 The The - DuskThe fourth album from the Manchester band and this was such a surprise. I had recently got into The The big time thanks to my flatmate and after he moved out, this record arrived. The The have always sounded great production and musically but adding Johnny Marr just made them next level. This is probably their most consistent album and it goes for the dark stuff like 'Dogs Of Lust', to perfect pop 'Slow Emotional Replay' and heat wrenching ballads '"Love Is Stronger than Death"' and that's just the singles. The record reached #2 in the UK and #138 in the US. 4/5

15 New Order - RepublicThe sixth studio album and from their previous album, they have very much absorbed the sounds of the time. This album is so 1993, most of the tracks have a dance/house feel with a very 90s sound but the early influences of Brit Pop are also apparent, most notable on lead single 'Regret' which also follows the path of Electronic as well. This has a perfect first half, side teo is great as well but there is a little filler. This does though have a case for the best New Order album and it will be a while till they match this again. The record reached #1 in the UK and #11 in the US. 4/5

14 Nirvana - In UteroUntil very recently I had not listened to their 3rd album in a long, long time and I must admit I loved it much more than I expected. I think they were they went wrong was releasing 'Heart Shaped Box' first as there are so many better songs on this album and I would probably have been more receptive to it at the time. Not much I need to say about this angry, less commercial and much more shocking. It was of course number one everywhere and sold 15 million albums. 4/5
