Well erm, Millwall about a year ago surely. Yep, thru the fa cup, but what about the league cup? No non-Premiership team has ever qualified for Europe through the League Cup since it awarded a European place. (The place goes to the Premiership, rather than the losing finalists, if the winners qualify for Europe through other means)

I'm sorry, I better retract that statement. The Carling Cup is clearly of utmost importance... which is probably why Man Utd and Arsenal have been fielding youth teams in the competition for the past however many years. And why Chelsea fielded a team full of internationals?

No, because on paper, it was still a much stronger side than Charlton's...
Chelsea's starting XI was worth over £100 million. If you include the subs, it's over £150 million.
Charlton's starting XI cost around £14 million.
