Average attendances for Premiership clubs this season:
1. Man Utd 75664 2. Arsenal 60036 3. Newcastle 49680 4. Liverpool 43833 5. Chelsea 41810 6. Man City 39178 7. Everton 37679 8. Tottenham 35780 9. West Ham 34654 10. Aston Villa 34354 11. Sheff Utd 29743 12. Middlesbrough 28093 13. Charlton 25917 14. Reading 23979 15. Bolton 23340 16. Fulham 21723 17. Blackburn 20798 18. Portsmouth 19721 19. Watford 18842 20. Wigan 17854
Perhaps more interesting is this table which shows the percentage change from last season's average. It's no surprise to see the 3 promoted teams near the top, along with Arsenal, but there are some surprises elsewhere...
1. Arsenal UP 57.2% 2. Sheff Utd UP 24.5% 3. Watford UP 20.9% 4. Reading UP 18.5% 5. Man Utd UP 10% 6. Fulham UP 5.2% 7. West Ham UP 2.7% 8. Everton UP 2.2% 9. Aston Villa UP 0.7% 10. Chelsea DOWN 0.2% 11. Portsmouth DOWN 0.6% 12. Tottenham DOWN 0.8% 13. Liverpool DOWN 0.9% 14. Blackburn DOWN 1% 15. Charlton DOWN 1.1% 16. Middlesbrough DOWN 1.3% 17. Newcastle DOWN 4.5% 18. Bolton DOWN 7.6% 19. Man City DOWN 8.6% 20. Wigan DOWN 13.4%

Newcastle taking a tumble there, finally pricing their fans out the market maybe?

I'm surprised at the drop in Pompey attendances, given their sharp upturn in form. Bolton also down severely for no reason at all, especially as they've already played the big four at home this season.

Not surprised about Wigan, I've been less than impressed with their attendances at the JJB for a few years now. I know Wigan is more of a rugby league town but its quite embarassing really, they even had lower attendances than us at times last season. Which for a Premiership club is pretty poor considering our average was under 20k last season.
Agree about Bolton tho, I just don't know how much more they can do to attract the fans.

Yeah Bolton is pretty shocking, I guess there are so many north west teams prospering that it gets a bit squeezed

Preston are top! Carlisle 8126 (was 7218) PROMOTED LAST YEAR Tranmere Rovers 7596 (was 7211) PROMOTION PUSH Blackpool 6226 (was 5820) NEW OWNERS? Port Vale 5501 (was 4666) PROMOTION PUSH Crewe 5449 (was 6732) RELEGATED LAST YEAR Oldham 4979 (was 5796) RUBBISH Stockport 4831 (was 4772) UP! Rochdale 2922 (was 2808) UP! I would imagine attendances pick up after January when people aren't buying everything for Christmas...

I would imagine attendances pick up after January when people aren't buying everything for Christmas... Not to mention the bad weather too which apparently is going to be bad this year too... Don't think attendances really pick up in January with the snow we've had in recent years, not to mention cup games which don't always appeal to Premiership fans.
