Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe has suggested there is a possibility of his club being reinstated to the Premiership with West Ham also keeping their place and the league having 21 clubs just for next season.
Any thoughts?

The big clubs would moan about playing too many games
I reckon it'd be quite fun having 4 relegated

Yes I remember that one, one of the first seasons I really remember
Anyway there is also the problem of one team having to have a weekend off every weekend...

Absolutely no way will this happen
Kevin McCabe just loves the sound of his own voice, the drivel he's spouted lately is laughable

Definately not going to happen, the fixtures are packed as it is, especially around the xmas period and it doesn't need another team upsetting the balance

Won't happen, but then nothing will happen to West Ham either.
That 94/95 season was the season I got into football, completely randomly as I'd always found football boring until then, the 1994 World Cup springs to mind, what little I saw of it anyway. Of course 2 up 4 down had implications for a certain club who finished 2nd in Division 1 that year, even if with hindsight it was probably a blessing in disguise...

well the players at west ham were eligable to play and the decision was made by a panel sheff utd signed upto abide by their decision so sheff utd should stop moaning about teams that play inelable players get points deducted. they seem to forget one little fact, tevez was not ineligable duh

Everyone wants to play in the Premiership so why not have 92 teams in there?
Sheffield United should come to terms with the fact that they were relegated.
The top division (when it was still called the First Division) had 21 teams in the 1987-88 season.
They decided the number of teams in the top division from 22 to 20 over 2 seasons the first years in which they introduced the playoffs and so it was 3 down automatically, 2 up automatically and a 4-team playoff comprising of the 4th bottom in the top division and the teams 3rd to 5th in the 2nd division.
In 1987, Aston Villa, Man City and Leicester were automatically relegated, Charlton who were 4th bottom won the play-offs so only 2 teams, Derby and Portsmouth were promoted.
1988 had the same system but this time Chelsea were relegated (!!) after finishing 4th bottom and failing to win the playoffs (losing to Middlesbrough, as we did too).
Then in 1991 they decided to go back to 22 so they had 2 down 4 up (3 automatic and one play-off), and the top division remained at 22 teams until 1995 (by which time it had become the premiership) when it went straight back down to 20 (4 down, 2 up).

Surely he was registered in the first place, and if he was, there was no need for him to sign again. I do think something iffy went on, what the punishment should be, who knows?

because there was a 3rd party influence in the contract. the premier league said he was eligable all season.
as far as i know he never signed again, just the part of the contract amended. so the contract is similar to mascherano at liverpool

the trouble is the media have made things up and people believe the made up stories rather than the truth. the 3 person panel found west ham innocent on the player being eligable! thats why it was a heavy fine.
the premier league then issued a statement after all the teams kicked off during the relegation battle saying although west ham broke 2 minor rules (3rd party influence and a cover up of that breach in rules) tevez was eligable all season!
tevez never did re-sign as he was eligable and registered all reason, the premier league said he cant play until the 3rd party infuence was cancelled (basically so the owners cant move tevez on during the season or get tevez to fix games as he is there property). that was cancelled before the wigan game, the letter was sent to the premier league and all the other teams in the league and he played.
so if he was eligable what basis do the other teams have in saying west ham should be relegated other than their own financial gain

rumors around the place are sheff utd are no longer going for west ham to be relegated because they are fighting a loosing battle trying to get them deducted points for fielding eligable players, why not deduct everyone points, then they can win the league lol. but they are going for £5 million - £30 million compensation!
says it all really, the whole reason they made a fuss was money not the rights and wrongs of football. first it was relegate west ham then its reinstate sheff utd and keep west ham there too! now its ok relegate sheff utd but give us £30 million...
they even have sean bean going to MP's with misinformation. its getting rather embarrising, i wanted them to come back up but now i hope they just disapear. they should of been deducted 10 points the season they threw a game and had 3 players sent off and 2 walked off the pitch which would of relegated them so they cant talk. they got a 30k fine or something stupid.
