The goalkeeper was truly awful. Two own goals and responsible for several others. Hope she stays in the team for the England game.

I heard the score, blimey and we have to play the germans! Need a result against Japan first, assume top 2 go through? Usa and North Korea have drawn 2-2, I must try and take in some of the highlights on bbc2.

Just finished watching the England-Japan game. Missed the first 25 mins but Japan were technically better than England but England created most of the chances throughout the game. Japan scored first through an excellently taken free-kick early in the 2nd half. England then finally scored through two goals in the space of two minutes from the best player on the pitch, Kelly Smith, in the final 10 minutes. Japan equalised with the last kick of the game from another free-kick to make it 2-2. The award of it was dubious but it was even better taken than the first one, both free-kicks scored by the same player. Overall a disappointing result against a Japanese side who apart from the free-kicks didnt really look like scoring, apart from the odd nervy moment Germany are apparently full-time professionals and obviously the team to beat in the group. But i thought England would beat Japan before the game. Hopefully 4 pts will be enough to qualify now, im assuming we'll beat Argentina comfortably.

I don't know the stength of the various teams but would England have been expected to beat Japan?

We deserved to beat the Japanese, had so many chances compared to their 2 dodgy free kicks. How did they decide who was at these finals, seems to be a lot of asian, oceanic teams and just one african side.

England would have taken a draw against Japan before kickoff but the manner in which the result came about is disappointing.
It will be very difficult against Germany. Kelly Smith seems to be England's best player by far but she needs support from the others. Aluko and Yankey both missed sitters against Japan and the goalkeeper doesn't fill me with confidence.
Qualification for the quarters may come down to who can score the most goals against Argentina.

Great result for England. A win against Argentina should see them through. We just need Germany to get the job done against Japan as well.

By my reckoning, England will definitely be through if they beat Argentina by 2 goals.
