I agree, and in a regular slot rather than the shuffling around it used to have to endure

Oh, I remember that, on Westcountry TV it used to be Tuesday and Thursday, then once a week, then three times a week, then I moved to a different area and they were a couple of years ahead, so missed a huge chunk, then they cut it from their schedules!!!!!

I used to love that show.It was on sooo late and I used to stay up to watch it ,and then be knackered for school the next morning.
I watched loads of them, and then I moved from England to Ireland - it wasn't shown here, and so I never knew how it ended. Seems so long ago now,but i still remember the names of Bea Smith,Lizzie Birdsworth,Karen Travers, although the storylines have gone a bit fuzzy in my mind. That's old age, that is. I would watch them again from episode 1 if it was repeated.Definately.

I've got the last 400 or so episodes on DVD - you can borrow them if you want anyone. Send me a PM if interested. Best show ever - but did prefer the latter sections with people like Reb Keane, Lou Kelly, Rita Connors and Anne Reynolds. Loved it when people from Home and Away and Neighbours always turned up on it.

I adore this tv show. Me and Joe have just started to buy the series on DVD starting from the very begining. What a wonderful show. I too remember staying up until 12:40 at night watching it on ITV every Tuesday and Thursday. Jim has just arrived where we're watching it at the moment 2nd best TV show EVER! behind The Golden Girls

Prisoner actor Mary Ward dead at 106
Veteran Australian screen and stage actor Mary Ward has died at the age of 106.
Her family said she died peacefully on Monday morning in a Melbourne aged care facility.
Ward was widely known for her roles in soap operas, but her most memorable character was probably Jeanette Brooks – known as Mum – on Prisoner (titled Prisoner: Cell Block H in the UK and the US) from 1979 to 1981.

106! wow!
There is a new series "Wentworth" based on the same characters as Prisoner Cell Block H. I only knew about that because my friend was watching it and I told her I used to watch the original Prisoner Cell Block H and how they had the same character names but loads of changes.
Frankie mentioned having killed "Meg Jackson" who was the former governess, but that's the same as Meg Morris, the only character who was in the entire series of the original Prisoner, was never killed off and was never governess. In addition they have Joan Ferguson as the governess now, a position she never held originally (she was just an officer).
They've also changed "Fletch"'s first name from Jim to Matt.

Wentworth is great, and the only reason I ever checked out PCB-H. Not sure if the original was before my birth of whether it just passed me by. Either way, both shows are vastly superior to Bad Girls or Orange Is The New Black.

Either way, both shows are vastly superior to Bad Girls or Orange Is The New Black. They're all beyond brilliant, but I'd rate them: 1. PCBH 2. Orange is the new black 3. Bad girls 4. Wentworth

I’d forgotten I even started this thread, but Laurence did very kindly leant me his PCBH collection - and I watched them all! Jordan - the original series started in 1979, so nearly before my birth - but I am pretty sure it only got it’s first airing in the late 80s when ITV went 24 hours so had to fill up it’s schedule with something cheap. They probably weren’t expecting it to pick up a cult following.

PCBH was being shown on TV in the UK in the late 80s, thus explaining why "On The Inside" by Lynne Hamilton reached #3 in 1989, because it being the theme brought about the demand for it.
Because of different regional showings, not every part of the country was getting the episodes at the same time. In London, it was shown on Carlton at one point and then they just shelved it totally, after which Channel 5 picked it up and I was able to resume when it came back.
It was shown in the early hours of the morning and so I would preset the video, but on the night of 25-26 March 2000, due to the clock moving forward that night, I wasn't sure my video recorder would handle the time change properly, so stayed up to make sure I watched it.
Thus I didn't sleep that night, and 26 March 2000 was the date I met Carol.
