ooh, I need to reply to this. Most of them have been in my chart too, though I haven't spotted any NM #1s yet. My chart of the year has been based on points since 1999 so the #1 single on points isn't always the real #1 of the year. In every year so far a UK act has had #1 of the year on points although in 2002 the real #1 of the year was "Sell Out" by US ska-band Reel Big Fish. Although I haven't compiled the chart of 2005 I am pretty certain that the #1 of the year will be by a band neither from the UK nor the USA nor even Canada. Some German cheese? Don't know what it could be. Probably Austrailian... I have only had 2 charts so the American domination will die out soon, may be this year

I do wish that bands, particularly rock ones, would not release 7" only singles. And particularly those bands who do not have a major following. Why do they think that doing this is so cool? Some of those who have been buying their singles don't have turntables nor do we intend to go and get them. I don't want to listen to my music on a turntable, I want to listen on my computer and in my car and on a portable device when I finally get one. And I don't want their poor-quality legal download either. Not until I can download .wav files anyway. I don't see the point in 7" only either. Not for any band...

Some more now, and the 10 just missing the top half. Feeder, Arctic Monkeys and Willy Mason all get their first of two hits on here whilst Stereophonics get their first of 3. Kaiser Chiefs, Nine Black Alps and Editors all get their final hits and Athlete, British Sea Power and Sugababes get their only entries.
060 Feeder - Shatter 059 British Sea Power - Please Stand Up 058 Athlete - Wires 057 Stereophonics - Rewind 056 Arctic Monkeys - Fake Tales Of San Francisco 055 Editors - Munich 054 Nine Black Alps - Unsatisfied 053 Sugababes - Push The Button 052 Kaiser Chiefs - Everyday I Love You Less And Less 051 Willy Mason - Hard Hand To Hold

050 Arcade Fire - Power OutI went out into the night, I went out to find some light...Not a song i charted or even knew of when it was released. The release of Rebellion made me buy the album and although it took a while to grow on me, this became one of the standout tracks off it. 049 Scissor Sisters - Filthy/GorgeousI'm a classy honey kissy huggy lovey dovey ghetto princess....Released in january, this is my favourite song from the Scissor Sisters and deservedly peaked higher than all of their other tracks. It reached number one on my personal chart towards the back end of last year. 048 The Strokes - Juice BoxWhy won't you come over here, we've got a city to love....Released just two weeks ago The Strokes returned with what's quite possibly their finest moment yet. Reached a peak of number 4 on my chart and was in the top 10 for quite a few weeks. If the album is in similar vein then it will most definatley be one i purchase. 047 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy WayAnd the last kiss had a foolish cause, straight tired eyes could only haunt....BRMC returned this year with the album "Howl" and this, the leading single from it. One of the better songs from a very good album. It takes a while to get into most of the tracks on it, but this is probably the most instant going to number 5 in my chart. 046 Beck - GirlI saw her, yeah I saw her with her hands tied back and her rags were burning....Beck's second track on the chart, and the second track released off his album Guero. It reached a peak of number 2 in my chart in the summer, beating "E-Pro" by one.

045 Chemical Brothers - The BoxerI should of told you, tell you how I feel, I can make a payment, I can make a deal....The best song off their recent "Push The Button" album by a long way. Featuring The Charlatans Tim Burgess on vocals The Boxer reached number one in my chart back in July. Their second and final song on this chart rounding off what's been a good year for the Chemical Brothers this year. 044 The Departure - Lump In My ThroatI've got a bag with no airholes, I've got a chair with no seat, I'm gonna put myself inside this and try to get some sleep....The best Departure song by a long way. Reached number one in my chart towards the beginning of this year. Their follow ups and album were all quite dissappointing and didn't match the standrd of Lump In My Throat. 043 Gorillaz - DareYou've got to press it on you, You just to think it thats what you do baby, hold it down dare....This has been the Gorillaz year. An album which'll have sold a million by the end of the year, a number 2 single in "Feel Good Inc" and Dare; a number one. Was number one on my chart for four weeks in the summer and would've been higher in this chart had it not been for overplaying by both me and radio stations. 042 System Of A Down - B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bombs)Everybodys's going to the party have a real good time, dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine....Another band who've had a fantastic year. Two brilliant albums; "Mesmerise" and "Hypnotise". Both providing some excellent songs, including this; B.Y.O.B. the first song off "Mesmerise" back in the spring. System Of A Down, who are by far the best metal band ever imo reached number 4 with this song earlier in the year. 041 Coldplay - Fix YouLights will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try and fix you.....One of the standout tracks off this years "X & Y" album shows Coldplay at their finest. A beautiful song that could shed a tear to most people's eye, whether that being because you find it so beautiful or whether you just hate them is your own choice. Was held off the top spot by the Gorillaz's "Dare" in August but beats it by 2 places in my end of year chart, and deservedly so.

040 Maximo Park - Going Missing I feed my body with things that I don't need, until I sink to the bottom....From one of the albums of the year is the first of 3 Maximo songs in the chart and they all appear inside the top 40, the only act to do so. This was their 3rd major single release after 'Apply Some Pressure' and 'Graffiti' and was the only one which didn't reach the top of my chart. 039 Oasis - The Importance Of Being Idle I lost my faith in the summer time, cos it don't stop raining....Fantastic song which saw Oasis get back to their best. A deserved UK number one and almost matched that peak in my personal chart, peaking at number two. Not quite the best song off recent album 'Don't Believe The Truth' but almost. 038 Rilo Kiley - Portions For Foxes And the talking leads to touching, and the touching leads to sex, and then there is no mystery left....Not a song i knew of when released back in March so never made my chart but i downloaded it when they released 'It's A Hit' in the summer. This is easily the best track i've heard of theirs and is just one of 7 tracks in my top 40 to only feature female vocals. 037 Gwen Stefani - Cool Circles and triangles, and now we're hangin' out with your new girlfriend....After the releases of 'Hollaback Girl' and 'Rich Girl' i would never have thought there would be a Gwen Stefani track anywhere near my top 100 of the year but then she released this; 'Cool', a utterly fabulous track and probably THE pop song of the year. If she'd released the fantastic 'Danger Zone' instead of 'Luxurious' she would have easily had a track in the top 10. 036 John Legend - Ordinary People I know i misbehaved, and you made your mistakes, and we both still got room left to grow....Easily the best song off his album 'Get Lifted'. It peaked at number two in my chart earlier this year. His album has sold well and reached the top 20 on a couple of occasions but he is still undoubtably one of the most under-rated acts around.

035 Basement Jaxx - Oh My Gosh I said forget about the sugar have a spoonful of me, 'cause I taste so sweet....Didn't like this that much at first but after i bought their Singles collection it changed my opinion of it. Easily one of the best singles they've ever realeased and up there with the best. Only made a tiny impression on my chart peaking in the 20s but it's yet another reason why doing my YTD chart this way is better than points. 034 Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984....The success story of the year; the Arctic Monkeys. Their rise from nowhere to take the number one spot with their first major release was quite an incredible achievement. 'I Bet You Look Good...' spent two weeks at the top of my chart in October and perhaps would be higher if i hadn't played it SO much. There are much better songs on the album and they should easily get into the top 10 next year providing they release the right singles. 033 Bloc Party - Pioneers We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for.....Pure brilliance. Took me a while to get into Bloc Party and the hype that followed them but this was the song that made me like them. The first time i heard it, i thought it was fantastic and still do. 'Like Eating Glass' is probably their only song superior to it. Spent one week at the top of my chart in the summer. 032 Guillemots - Made Up Love Song #43 The best things come from nowhere, I can't believe you care.....The first Guillemots track i ever heard and easily their best from the few i have heard. A beautiful love song (as the title says) released on their 'I Saw Such Things In My Sleep' EP in September. Peaked at number 11 on my personal chart and they definately ARE one's to watch in 2006. :cheer: 031 Paul Weller - From The Floorboards UpWhen we play, we play we play, Mama, from the floorboards up....This year was again the return of the Grandad of rock and what a return it was, his best song in years. Peaked at number 2 in my chart and also got him yet another top 10 position in the UK chart. This guy never stops, and if he did it would be a sad day for music. He's picking up next years Lifetime Achievement award at the Brits, and rightfully so!

very non-rocky 5 here 030 Doves - Black and White TownLord give me a reaction, Lord give me a chance.....Easily the standout track off the album 'Some Cities' was released towards the beginning of this year. Seems to be the only song off the album that has got better with time. Reached number 5 in my chart and spent nearly 20 weeks in there altogether. 029 Pendulum - SlamThe only song on this countdown not to feature any vocals and what a fine song too. If it wasn't for one act with two songs left to come it would be my dance song of the year. They should hopefully become big in '06, and deservedly so. Slam peaked at number 8 in my chart and like Black and White Town spent around 20 weeks in it. 028 Jack Johnson - Good PeopleThey got this and that with a rattle a tat, testing, one, two, man whatcha gonna do....One of the best tracks off his third album 'Inbetween Dreams' Good People was the song that got me into Jack Johnson and led me to buy all 3 of his albums and they are all gems. Anyone who likes singer-songwriters should own them all. Peaked inside the top 5 for me in the summer. 027 Kanye West ft Jamie Foxx - Gold Digger18 years, 18 years, she got one of yo kids got you for 18 years...The album was a relative disappointment for me. I thought it would be better than it is and there are few great tracks on it. This being one of the few that are great went and peaked at number two for me. His next single 'Touch The Sky' which is easily the best song on the album should easily be higher than this in my top 100 of '06. 026 Amerie - One ThingIt's this one thing that caught me slippin', it's this one thing I want to admit it....One of the truely great RnB songs of the past few years. Absolutely loved it to start with but went off it after a while. I rekindled my love for it about 4 weeks ago after hearing it for the first time in months. It does seem to be a love/hate track with a lot of people but i for one love it. Shame the rest of her album is b****cks.

025 Saul Williams - List Of DemandsI've got a list of demands, written on the palm of my hands....THE Urban/Rap/RnB/Hip-hop song of the year. Despite only making a peak at the dizzy height of 142 in the UK charts this is one of the best rap songs i've heard all year. Why this didn't get any success yet sh*te like 50 Cent always reaches the top 10 i'll never know. Reached a peak of number 3 in my chart but didn't stay in it for very long. 024 Stereophonics - SupermanYou got that woman but you want her gone, so you can fuck a teenage blonde....This was a great year for one of my favourite ever bands, i know they're a band everyone loves to hate but i've always loved them and they returned to form this year with 'Language. Sex. Violence. Other.' after their last two below par albums. Superman is one of the standout tracks and a great opener for the album. This was their second chart-topper of the year for me after 'Dakota' 023 Feeder - Feeling A MomentFeeling a moment slip away....The standout track off a VERY weak Feeder album this year. Probably the wrost album they've ever produced but it did have a few good parts including this, the opener. It would've made me buy the album but i recieved a surprise copy of it in the post anyway so i didn't need to ^_^ Reached number for in my chart towards the beginning of the year. 022 Hard-Fi - Hard To BeatI've seen ya darling, seen you hanging round town....Hard-Fi are a weird band to me, i like all of their songs but there's something about them that doesn't want to make me like them. This however, is a superb track and the only one to peak at number one for me. It was the first song of theirs i really liked but i have gone off it slightly in recent weeks, if i hadn't it may have gone top 10. 021 Alkaline Trio - Time To WasteThere's someone down below, blowing you a kiss....This, their second entry on this chart was the first Alkaline Trio song i ever heard and a fine one it is too. I keep meaning to get their album but never do. Peaked at number two for me in the summer. This song also has what's probably my second favourite intro of the year, after the song at number 3 in this countdown

020 Head Automatica - Beating Heart BabyBaby is this love for real? Let me in your arms to feel....Released in January, this went almost completely un-noticed in the Uk. Why? I don't know, it's an excellent song and deserving of so much better. Never heard anything else by them and don't know anything else about them but anyone who doesn't know it should check it out or ask me for it. One of four songs in my top 20 that never reached the UK top 40. 019 Futureheads - AreaYou have to stay in a hotel, as your house was falling to pieces....The second of three Futureheads songs in this countdown and one of just 3 acts to have two songs in the top 20. One of the others, you can probably guess, the other, you might not....If this is a sign of how good their second album is going to be then it will probably be even better than their first. Reached number one for me but was knocked off after a week by a song still to come. 018 Antony and the Johnsons - Hope There's SomeoneHope there's someone who'll set my heart free, nice to hold when i'm tired.....The first time i heard this i nearly cried Just the most beautiful lyrics sung by a man with the most powerful voice. I downloaded it as soon as i knew what it was along with 'Cripple and the Starfish' which is even better than this. He deservedly won the Mercury Prize in September(?) and although i haven't heard all of the album, what i have heard is amazing. Peaked at number 5 for me but the British public failed to make it a top 40 hit 017 Maximo Park - GraffitiI'll do graffiti if you sing to me in French, what are we doing here if romance isn't dead?....My favourite band i've discovered this year and one one of 3 bands to have 3 top 20 songs. This was their second release and like their first 'Apply Some Pressure' it went to the top of my chart. I did go off this track for a while but now when i listen to the album it's one of the best. Would be going to see them on the NME tour next year but some c*nts decided to make Nottingham over 18s only 016 KT Tunstall - Black Horse and the Cherry TreeMy heart knows me better than I know myself, so I'm gonna let it do all the talking....Probably a surprise inclusion, or atleast a surprise placing anyway. This song made me buy the album before it even went top 75 let alone before she became one of the biggest breaktrhough acts of the year and it went on to sell over 800,000 copies (Go me! #cheer# ). The album isn't THAT good but is excellent in places. This and 'Another Place To Fall' are easily the highlights. I would also never have thought that 6 of my top 16 of the year would feature female vocals.

3 of those have a chance of making my top 100...

This song also has what's probably my second favourite intro of the year, after the song at number 3 in this countdown And 3 of those have a chance of making my top 100.
