I did a top 20 once on Dot in the Peej forum - ah memories! At the moment I've been listening to 'Lost in Space' a hell of a lot - make of that what you will! Just seems more honest at the moment. 1. Invisible Ink 2. Ghost World 3. Humpty Dumpty 4. Wise Up 5. Momentum 6. Deathly 7. It's Not (Live in Hammersmith Apollo) 8. I Should've Known 9. Today's the Day 10. Lost in Space No real news on Aimee's new album, Quandary - I'll keep checking her official site though!

Keep checking, we seriously need some *new* good female album (From what we've heard, both Björk and PJ Harvey are promising though ! Both of their new stuff sound more like their older stuff than the previous album) Bit surprised seeing 5 songs taking over 'Deathly's place I REALLY love 'Invisible Ink' but depending on the moment I must say the chorus sometimes works less than the rest. Especially the moment it switches off to the 2nd chorus seems a little weak. The verses/bridges are INCREDIBLE though. 'Bachelor No.2..' is kinda slowly dating on me,, but the standouts remain strong.

Do you know what? I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing about I I! The verses are outstanding, so deep and so profound but the lyrics to the chorus almost sounds cliched in return...musically it's great! Still love it to bits though! You ought to really hear a live version of 'It's Not' - it's much longer and the repetition of the words 'It's Not' over that music really is spinetingling.

Aw, glad I wasn't the only one thinking that then Oh and I did hear a live version of 'It's Not'. I downloaded the one which is on the 2nd disc of the re-released 'Lost In Space' copy, the BBC one I think. It's excellent. I'm curious to hear that Hammersmith Apollo one in your list. I must say that nothing can beat the studio version though. It's literally from that noise at the start to the last line PERFECT. Especially with the strings and the little piano thing but most of all her sad vocals. Gosh, sometimes I even find it hard to listen to it since I can relate to the lyrics SO much..

Interesting, I've never focused on the music accompaminent of the original It's Not so much as the tune and the lyrics but I'll listen out for that strings and little piano thing! When I've got time I would like to re-review Aimee's LIS or say what I get from the tracks if that's not hideously self-indulgent of me I hope! I've got to check out Patti Smith too - I do know 'Because the Night' but I consider it a very good commercial track but 'Horses' is the one to get I guess...

To be honest I would recomend the Magnolia soundtrack as a starting point. It contains a range of styles of tracks and 'Save Me' and 'Wise Up' will move you very much. It also fits very strongly with the themes of the tracks.... I'm sure as long as these forums go on, myself and Quandary will be going on about her ad nauseum so you'll eventually sucumb!

Aimee's not really someone that jumps out immediately like Björk or Kate in every way and I'm not sure if you gonna like it but she's worth a try. I guess her music sounds rather 'average' than 'progressive' for starters. Light way of singing, simple yet SO realistic and well written lyrics. As Homey said, try the songs from 'Magnolia' soundtrack first. Everyone seems to love that the most. I think you'd like Fiona more on first instant. If you want a Fiona album, I would suggest getting Fiona Apple's 2nd album. She has this rough voice and the (dull) young piano-girl type of music on 'Tidal' doesn't really suit it (imo). On 'When The Pawn..' she matured and surrounded herself with good producers, resulting a powerful and more rocky album that shows her angry side. Still some missers, but they're easily forgiven with tracks as 'Get Gone' & 'Limp'.

I'm going to send him a moopy PM to see if he wants to check this place out.... we NEED him! Anyway, I don't know if I've got the physical or emotional stamina to review LIS tonight - heavy work week but I will say this. I wish the order of the tracks were completely changed - it seems to be a bit of a jumble of themes . Quandary, have you ever heard Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'..it's one of my top 5 albums ever and it's about a total breakdown based on experiences in life building 'bricks' and then when the wall is built the protagonist goes a little bit mad! It's such an overall album though and I wouldn't judge it on Another Brick in the Wall part 2 or Comfortably Numb on it's own. Try watching the 1984 Bob Geldof film. Anyway, I digress, I think this could be a similarly styled 'story' album of the protagonist having bad experiences, losing it and then getting better.... The track listing would have to be changed IMO to: 1. Lost in Space 2. The Moth 3. This is How it Goes 4. Pavlov's Bell 5. Guys Like Me 6. It's Not 7. Humpty Dumpty 8. Real Bad News 9. Invisible Ink 10. High on Sunday 51 11. Today's the Day But I just don't have the energy to say what I want to say about it tonight, sadly! So will continue soon

Hmmm,.. weird, I bought all the Aimee & Fiona albums on sale. I forgot where you live (Brussel ? Antwerpen ?, but if you're in the city, just search all the musicshops there are. Avoid the shops for 'popular' music. The more 'underground' musicshops have it always cheaper. I listened to it in the library once. Due to lack of time I couldn't really focus on it though. And I did dowloaded some songs from it, but I as you said I need to hear the whole package instead of selections. So I need to borrow it from someone. I'm not really sure if I'm gonna like Pink Floyd though. I'm not always a fan of the critics'choices, and from everything I heard so far, no single track made a huge impression on me.. But since it's one of your all-time favourites, I definitely would give them another chance. Alright I'm fine with the tracklist (especially the 2nd half is near perfect for me). I see you're sorta dividing the rather more 'sad' songs and the mellow ones. (apart from the catchy 'Humpty Dumpty' UNDER 'It's Not' !?!?) But I'm sure your re-review's gonna explain the new order.

I recommend these Fiona songs: from 'Tidal': Never Is A Promise, Sullen Girl, Sleep To Dream, Criminal (actually the only 4 good songs from it from 'When The Pawn..': Limp, Get Gone, Fast As You Can and I think you will like Paper Bag..

This will be very tough. In no order, and at the moment anyway (except for the first one):
1. DEATHLY 2. "It's Not" 3. "Humpty Dumpty" 4. "Wise Up" 5. "Save Me" 6. "Could've Been Anyone" 7. "Invisible Ink" 8. "This is How it Goes" 9. "Nothing is Good Enough" 10. "The Fall of the World's Own Optimist"
I'm listening to loads of Whatever these days. It's really fantastic.
Oh, and "Just Like Anyone" is easily one of the best songs to ever clock in at under 2 minutes!

Welcome Suedy and you're absolutely right about 'Just Like Anyone'. It actually almost made the top 10 of mine, brilliant. I saw 'Whatever' for a tenner, so I might get it.

I watched the trashy but very enjoyable and bitchy high school sex/betrayal and love thriller 'Cruel Intentions' yesterday (with Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar) and I was shocked when Aimee's 'You could Make a Killing' played towards the end of the film. Her music is just so pure and honest it works wonder's in films.
