Rio's an OK song but DD have done far better. Great to see 1927 in there. That song deserved better. John Mellancamp's only big UK hit was Jack and Diane but he's done some fine songs like Rock in the USA, Check it out and Smalltown.

Ok some huge songs in this next 10 79-70 79 Robert Palmer - Addicted to Loveok another one of those songs you find on rock compliations and are we sick of that video??? no not really hehe 78 The Las- There She Goesok this could have been in a 90s list but I'm going by when I first heard it, I fell asleep with my radio on and walk on up to here this amazing song, I thought I was dreaming. Absolute classic, why did they have n9o more songs like this in them?? 77 REM - It's The End Of The World As We Know ItThe 2nd song I ever heard by REM,this first is till to come but such a great Indie night singalong 'LEONARD BERNSTEIN!!!' hahaha 76 Prince - Raspberry BeretNow my fave 80s Prince song, pure pop perfection and one of the best Wendy& Lisa backings on any Prince song. 75 Pet Shop Boys - West End GirlsNot much to say about this, loved it from the first moment I heard it one of the best songs of 1985. 74 A-ha - Take On MeAnd here's another one, classic video classic song shame you couldnt admit to liking them at school hehe 73 Cyndi Lauper - True ColorsThis song has had some diabolical cover versions, only listen to the orginial, Phil Collins version is one of the worst songs ever. THis version is sweet, delicate and sexy 3 words nobody would use for Phil Collins. 72 Ray Parker Jnr -GhostbustersHurrah it's another movie theme, the hilarious and amazing Ghostbusters!! Who U gonna call?? 71 Police - King Of Painoops I forgot I had another Police song to come hehe as brilliant as the last one. 70 Glass Tiger - Dont Forget Me (When Im Gone)Now its my favourite band of 1986-1987, ok this track is a bit of Duran Duran rip off yep but their other stuff was totally different. I'd describe them as a cross between Big Country & Foreigner. Big soft rock ballads with a celtic feel. My fave Glass Tiger song is still to come tho. Oh and the singer was from Kilmarnock,Scotland the rest of the band were Canadian.

Dont forget me also has Bryan Adams on backing vocals.

69-60
My usual mix of alternative pop, rock ballads and film themes hehe kinda somes up my list well hehe
69 Propaganda - Duel
Ok first electro indie pop from a great singles band that never got the success they deserved in the UK really.
68 Patti Smith - Because The Night
Probably the grand mistress of modern rock women, before Chrissy Hynde, Courtney Love, P J Harvey they all cite this women as an influence and this is her best and most well known song.
67 John Waite - Missing You
Every 10 there's a big rock compilation ballad and this is one of the biggest, again has had some dodgy cover versions this is the orginial and the best. He formed a great band in the late 80s called Bad English that did some good stuff as well.
66 Flock Of Seagulls - Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You)
Scary haired new romantic that were somehow much bigger in US than their native UK, their other big single 'I Ran' just missed the list.
65 Depeche Mode - Everything Counts
My favourite Depeche Mode song at the moment, just a great band thru and thru.
64 Def Leppard - Animal
I'd always heard of Def Leppard but this was the first song I heard by them anf I realised straight away wot I had been missing, one of the best Britsih rock bands ever ('Lets Get Rocked' excepted of coz lol)
63 Asia -Only Time Will Tell
2nd song for them in my list, just a great rock band with some great pop melodies.
62 Huey Lewis And The News - Stuck With You
The first 12" single I ever bought lol, yeh I know weirs record to buy on 12" but it had 3 past singles on it as well hehe, great nostalgia for me this song.
61 Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)
Here's the obligatory movie song, this one from the brilliant 'Breakfast Club', Oh if they kept up this standard oh well.
60 Teardrop Explodes - Reward
Indie band time now fronted by the great Julian Cope, who's 'World Shut Your Mouth' just missed by list, this was their biggest and most well known song.

Here comes 50 thru to 40 AS we get higher up the list the songs get more personal and very few more so than the next song.... 49 The Sundays - Here's Where the Story EndsGorgeous voice, brilliant band and on eof the best albums of the last 20 years. 'Reading,Writing & Arthmetic' only had one single release and this wasn't it!!! Why!!! It is brilliant, thankfully Tin Tin Out made it the hit it deserved with a none too shabby version. 48 Duran Duran - Save A PrayerNow the highest Duran song in my list and it's pure early 80s everthing that's great about 80s music is iin this record, atmosphere, production & style. 47 Killing Joke - Love Like BloodNow I be honest I heard of this band in the 80s but didnt know that I liked any of their songs, It wasn't till an indie club I frequented started playing this alongside Blur, Charlatans etc that I fell in love with it Scary band but this is an awesome single. 46 Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two TribesAfter 'Relax' we all wondered 1 hit wonders??? no chance this track blew away just about everthing else in the charts at the time and still sounds great today. 45 The Cult - She Sells SanctuaryOne of the most recognizable rock intros, you just built up ypurself ready to start moshing, fantastic record and the 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' of its day. 44 The Smiths - There Is a Light That Never Goes OutOk more cheating I didn't know this song until 1991 when I went thru a major Smiths phase and and its my fave song by them at the moment. 43 Soft Cell - Tainted LoveThis song was always around but again I didn't get into them until the reissue of the above song in 1991 and an ex introduced me to them big style. 'Say Hello Wave Goodbye' just missed the cut. 42 Stranglers - Golden BrownOne of those songs that seems to have been around forever but nope its an 80s song. Sublime say no more. 41 Blue Nile - Tinseltown In The RainAnother late song I got into The Blue Nile in 1989 when thier 2nd album was released and I tracked down their 1st album and this song jumped out and it's still my fave song of theirs. thats all for now
