Ok if anyone has done the maths, 2 of the top 5 bands have already been revealed and the first to appear at Number FiveHeart - These DreamsYes, theyre fourth and highest appearance in the top 200 and I think they are the only band to have four songs on the list. This song orginally reached no 62 in 1986 and was their first UK hit single but after the success of the 'Bad Animals' album it was re-issued and reached no8 in 1988. Its a beautiful song again championed by 'No Limits' and I'll never get sick of it. Number FourSuzanne Vega - LukaHere only song in my top 200 it reached no23 in 1987, yes I know I thought it was higher as well. Again a gorgeous song with brilliant production but at the same time such sad lyrics, it's really weird how this song is uplifting & sad at the same time but I guess that's its appeal. Absolutely timeless. and at Number ThreeBruce Hornsby The Range - The Way It IsAgain if you have been following this thread closely you would know this song was still to come , US no1 & Uk no16 in 1986. With one of the most instantly recognizable intros and the best piano playing in any major pop hit of the last 20 years. This has been my no1 song of all time in the past constantly swapping plays with the top 2, in fact the no2 has been my favourite song for longer than the no1 I have chosen; lol bet I lost you there hehe Anyway Number 1 later today but more likely monday now sorry! ! Here;s the Number Two[/b] tho! Don Henley - The Boys Of SummerThe best rock single of all time, it is my all time favourite rock track I mean of the last 40 years of gawd ever basically. Again fantastic production, great vocals, super memorable chorus but more importantly it's always been their at the big times in my life. I am a Boy Of Summer most of the best times in my life happened in summer holidays. Ok maybe Cliff should be here instead hehe. Now again it's timeless and I will never get sick of it. Even DJ Sammy didn't make me sick of this song I even manage to happily tolerate their version thru gritted teeth at first but I got used to it hehe. Anyway number one later and it's not a very well known song so I hope most of you here will remember it, I have faith that Hullboy will known it for sure but hopefully the rest of you too.

I don't really know many Heart songs but I do like numbers 4,3 and 2... especially Suzanne Vega - very underrated imo.
*wonders what will be top*

Ooh that's got me thinking.... Maybe a Canadian band with Scottish connections Boys of summer would probably be in my top 10 of the 80s.

ok well therre has been some clues in the maths and along the way.
1. The band can't be US based
2. They sound similiar to China Crisis
3. They haven't appeared in the list so far.
4. They are from the same era as Early Cure so 1983-1985
one last clue
5 They are one hit wonders, only 1 top 40 to theyre name.
anyway won't keep you waiting long hehe

alright alright
[glow=red,2,300]The Number One is.......[/glow]
The Lotus Eaters - The First Picture Of You
It reached #15 in July 1983 and was their one and only UK hit even though there album 'No Sense Of Sin' had at least another 3-4 worthy hit singles on it.
A shame that they didn't manage to have the success of China Crisis, Tears For Fears or other similiar acts but they have this song a true songwriting classic, the sweetest melodies and one of the first hit singles in the style of Indie that we have nowadays eg. coldplay, Keane etc
This is the best single of the eighties in my opinion, I first heard it on Top Of The Pops they played the video and I instantly fell in love with it, I didn't even own it until 1991 when I managed to track down a 12" copy and now of course with mp3 I have the single version now.
Anyway that's it I am working on a 90s list but it will take far longer to compile hehe

Thank you so much Thorney for that wondeful trip down memory lane. Great to see Luka in the Top 5, and congrats on supporting a non-big-hit #1!! ;D
