With the remix album due out shortly, and Marilyn Manson covering one of DM's best songs, I thought they deserved their own appreciation thread. The band have been together for around 25 years, and still sound great today! ;D
In no particular order, here's my fav five Depeche Mode songs:
A Question of Lust Everything Counts Enjoy the Silence Useless Never Let Me Down Again

Shake the Disease, Master and Servant, Blasphemous Rumours, People Are People, Dreaming of Me - what fantastic songs!! I went to see Depeche Mode in concert in Germany once - they were excellent

You should listen to more of their late 80s stuff Sofie, coz i'm sure you'd like it! The best album's are probably "Violator" and "Music for the Masses" but "Songs of Faith & Devotion" from the 90s has some great dark and moving songs on it as well!

My top 5:
Policy Of Truth Strangelove World In My Eyes Behind The Wheel Never Let Me Down Again
And yes, I know they're all from Music For The Masses and Violator... but what can I say? Those are their best albums!
My favorite hidden gem is Sea Of Sin which was on the World In My Eyes cd single. A rare exception among Depeche b-sides as most of them tend to be instrumental filler. Anyone else know this track?

I know "Sea of Sin", and you're sooo right it's an excellent tune! Another great track is the instrumental "Agent Orange" which was a bonus track on the remastered "Music for the Masses"

Love the mixes of Rote 66, Never let me down again and Enjoy the silence on the new album. The version of "Never Let Me Down Again" is stunning isn't it? Also really like the versions of "Halo" (Goldfrapp), "Useless" (Kruder & Dorfmeister), "Clean" (Colder), "Freelove" (DJ Muggs), "Home" (Air), "Personal Jesus" (Francois Kevorkian) & "World In My Eyes" (Beloved).

Great stuff! Oddly I think they are more liked in the US than here in the UK as I find so few that like them.
Violator was a defining moment in my life and is still one of my top 10 albums! The also released a remix of the album which I like.
The recent 3 disc remix box-set is a must as well if you are a fan...
I am currently filling in all the holes in my collection (as I find it used etc) but have right now:
Depeche Mode 101 Disc 1 Depeche Mode 101 Disc 2 Depeche Mode A Question of Time (single) Depeche Mode Construction Time Again Depeche Mode Everything Counts '89 (single) Depeche Mode Music for the Masses Depeche Mode Reconstruction Time A Tribute to Depeche Mode Depeche Mode Remixes 1981-2004 [UK] Disc 3 Depeche Mode Remixes 81-04 [Limited Edition 3-CD Set] Disc 1 Depeche Mode Remixes 81-04 [Limited Edition 3-CD Set] Disc 2 Depeche Mode Sambrero Vol. 1 Depeche Mode Symphonic Music of Depeche Mode Depeche Mode The Singles 81]85 Depeche Mode The Singles 86]98 Disc 1 Depeche Mode The Singles 86]98 Disc 2 Depeche Mode Violator Depeche Mode Violator 2000 (MIXES)

What's the Violator mix album like?
I like it - it's remixes of every song. Somewhat like The Cure's 'Mixed Up'. Not dance remixes per se, just updated mixes... 'Sombrero Vol 1 is remixes of lots of different songs and interesting.
Symphonic Music of Depeche Mode is quite cool. All their hits done by an orchestra...
