There have been no threads about the Floyd on these forums. Shameful! But never too late to start one. What's your favourite album. I went for the 'Wall' - as that has been a major part of my life. However, I absolutely love 'Atom Heart Mother' a close second.

I only have "Echo's - The Best Of" but I prefer their early stuff with the vocals of Syd Barrett. My fav songs are "See Emily Play" and "Piper at the Gates of Down"

Went for The Wall - memories of playing this at very high volume whenever I got depressed as a teenager ;D I only got Dark Side of the Moon last year - but it is also very good - haven't tried the others yet.

My fav songs are "See Emily Play" and "Piper at the Gates of Down" I love that stuff too - so deranged and carefree. The great thing about Floyd is that they had so many different eras to them making them having an extremely interesting history. I personally find that although DSOTM is undisputedly a good album it is a tad overrated. Take away the talking about madness and the orgasmic 'Great Gig in the Sky' and you do have some slow and fairly good but unexceptional rock songs.

Harsh! It was released to give instant promotion to an upcoming act - which is necessary in these days and it worked. The song's a laugh and even Roger Waters thinks its fine. I don't see how the two versions conflict with each other since they're so different. Normally the problem with a cover version is when it's a carbon copy but inferior - see Atomic Kitten.

I have no respect for new acts releasing a cover as 1st thing to promote themselves. People should like you for what you're capable to do. If you're good enough to draw their attention with you OWN material & make them like your music then you deserve the success, if no then I'm sorry, you deserve a BIG FAT flop. Scissor sister try hard IMO, attention seekers of high order. The way they dress, their vids & everything else shows how deserate they are, they're are not even known in their own country & nowhere else in this world except in the UK & maybe OZ. Pink Floyd were huge worldwide so they thought they would surely draw people's attention. As for the comments by Roger Waters, he would have said the same even if it was Pestlife who covered it. I know many young people who went downloading or buying Comfortably Numb by Pink Floys just to see what it's like.

That is surely a good deed done then I hated Scissor Sisters version when I first heard it, but grew to like it. I appreciate the totally different working of the track. As HomesPlace says -there is no point in a cover that just copies an original song. I do agree that releasing a cover as the first single is a bit off though.

Get Echoes, their GH - that's usually cheap and it's probably the best value and most comprehensive collection I know for any artists. There's four or five different eras to Floyd - each vastly contrasting. They are a fascinating band to read about.
