how good were Soul II Soul!! ;D
At least for the first two albums after which they rested on their laurels blanded out and went to dumpsville.
But songs like 'Keep on Moving', 'Fairplay', 'Back to Life', 'Get a Life', 'A Dream's a Dream' were excellent and they had a fine range of female singers (Caron Wheeler, Kym Mazelle, Victoria Wilson-James)..

I only have the best of but it's a damn fine record.
Should I buy their first album? I know it's hailed as a classic but have never been sure whether it's worth it when I already have the singles on the other cd.

The thing you should know is that the singles 'Back to Life' and 'Keep on Moving' are remixes of the tracks from CC vol 1 and sound nothing like the album. 'Back to Life' is an accapella on the album - the album has more of an overall flavour and very sparse and underproduced in parts.
