Was listening to them this morning, and forgot how much I like them First heard of them through World In Motion, which I loved even though I had no interest in football at the time! Then remember hearing Regret in 1993. I saw their "Baywatch" performance on TOTP2 a few years ago, and remembered watching it in the local club on TOTP youth club vividly . It was around a time when I seemed to be more aware of music, even though I'd been interested for several years. I still think the TOTP performance was the main reason it became one of their biggest hits too, its the thing that springs to mind when you hear the song imo. After this I gradually got more into their 80s work, I still think True Faith and Blue Monday are masterpieces, and having bought their best of, a lot of their other 80s stuff appeals to me as well, though Im not into their more recent stuff. I also loved Public Domain's Operation Blade when it came out in 2000, so was already into them a lot without realising

This "Baywatch" thing is not the first thing that pops into my mind as I have no idea what you're referring to...

If I recall they performed it on TOTP on a Baywatch beach surrounded by babes. For some bizarre reason!

Blue Monday was the first 12" I ever bought, I loved that song and treasured that piece of vinyl, it was on non stop play in my parents house I then proceeded to buy the next 3 or 4 12"s by them as well, and managed to get hold of ceremony an older single and discover Love will tear us apart. Went off them a bit around Technique, but loving them again at the mo, thought crystal was great!

I think the Baywatch thing was actually a performance on MTV's Spring Break or something like that. It didn't have any affiliation with the tv show Baywatch.
I've always thought it was the most bizarre thing New Order ever did. They always seemed to try to avoid being seen as mainstream with the arty videos, song titles that weren't in the lyrics, rarely appearing in single/album sleeves, etc. Seeing them performing on a sunny beach surrounded by people in swimsuits was almost surreal.
It was almost as strange as when they redid Blue Monday with new lyrics for a Sunkist commercial, which I think was done around the same time. It wasn't that they allowed the song the be used but that Bernard actually sang on the new version!
I think the new lyrics went something like: How does it feel when a new day has begun when you're drinking in the sunshine Sunkist is the one

Didn't Blue Monday sell over a million just on 12" or something?

the funny thing is it nearly broke Factory as it cost more to make than what they were selling it for... LOL!

aye - biggest selling 12'' of all time in fact, and it will ALWAYS hold that title They released a set of 12 different 12" singles earlier this year and the Blue Monday disc was the best seller making it into the chart at #73 in March. So that's a few more sales to add on to the total!

Thanks for your info about the video, it was shown on TOTP2 as part of a sateillite link-up special. As I said (with my confused 1st post lol) I saw it at the youth club on TOTP at the time, so assumed it was done for that show. I admit thinking back now, I've got no idea why they did it!

Blue monday is still in the mids every week and not sure which version it is and whether it's sales count towards the grand total or not?

It does have a new catalog number. I was just assuming that the Blue Monday sales grand total also included sales for the 1988 and 1995 versions, and so would also include this one. But if the total is by catalog number then this new version wouldn't count toward it.

According to BHS&A, the totals from eash issue were added up for the overall sale of the song .
