Happy 30th to this one: Not my favourite Lonnie song, but much better than the Sybil version. Still to this day wonder why the record company argued over the follow up single and "How Could He Do This To Me" even got as far as radio play. Strange choice to go with a ballad as a second single, so completely understood why it underperformed - I would have preferred an uptempo track as well! I've always loved this song and agree it's loads better than Sybil's version. This didn't deserve to be the song that killed Lonnie's career, it's so much better than that. With the benefit of hindsight it should have been another dance track released, I suppose she just wasn't established enough to go for such a drastic change of pace. If they'd have flipped the releases of If I Have To Stand Alone and this, I think both could have been big hits. Such a shame really.

I'd not heard that Jayne Collins song before. It's nice enough, but doesn't feel very 'of it's time' for 1995. Sounds like something they would have released five or six years earlier.

Completely agree. If they were going to bin “How Could.....” completely, at least of gone for “If I Have To Stand Alone”. I guess the six month gap between releases didn’t exactly help either!

I love a bit of Paul Lekakis ! I even love the gloriously naff talky bits. Now listening to Assume The Position You wouldn't get that from Jason Donovan Agreed that Lonnie shoulda had an uptempo 2nd single. I bought Happenin All Over Again at the time. I didn't buy the next one 'cause I just never saw it in store or never heard it, or anything else til the internet came along yrs later. How Could He Do This to Me is my fav Lonnie track. (Apparently I can't type the word Lonnie quickly.I have to keep rewriting Lonnie 'cause I keep putting Loonie). This is where we fall out - I much prefer Sybils version of Beyond Your Wildest Dreams (and Sybils Make it Easy On Me over Steps too).

I hadn't realised it had been so long between releases, I guess there must have been a bottleneck at the Hit Factory in 1990. Their focus must have been Kylie and Jason and trying to provide life support to Sonia and Big Fun's already ailing careers. They really took their eye off the ball with poor Lonnie then.

And even more surprisingly reached number 91, despite sounding already dated. Must have been the Baywatch fans coming out in their tens to buy it. I’m not even sure how I even knew of it to buy it at the time - I have never even watched a single episode of Baywatch. It must have of been on TV somewhere (or more likely in a bargain bin at a record shop).

The Sybil version of Make It Easy On Me is much much better than the Steps version. I was never really keen on the Steps version (but then not really a fan when LSL does all the vocal work anyway). Sybil is an odd one for me - loved/liked all her singles, but never actually gotten around to buying or listening to any of her albums. Although it has taken me until today, 30 years later, to work out that Sybilization was actually a play on words for Civilisation.

The only Sybil album I have is Good N Ready. I always think of it as being a hits compilation (with the song titles plastered across the cover) but it's not. I like it though. As we all know #41 is the most cruel chart position of them all, and looking at Wiki now and she's been there twice. Beyond Your Wildest Dreams and Stronger Together deserved much more. My Love Is Guaranteed originally stalled at #42, so almost a triple tragedy. That poor woman. Wiki also says that she's the cousin of the little one (who no longer is from) En Vogue. I didn't know that. Unless it's a wiki lie that someone added to fool the likes of us.

"Never Gonna Give You Up" was # 1 in UK, when Kristina Ivanova (from YVA) was born (6th September 1987).

One of the DJs played it a lot.

It was the only place I ever saw it on sale - I was super excited to get it back to the UK to play it.
