Ain't no cure is one of those songs to label under "should've been released and should have been huge", both versions are great but i prefer Bananarama's version as the vocals on Delage's first verse doesn't do the trick for me.

I liked Delage's Rock The Boat, but it all sounded a bit too session singer-y, so didn't hold out for much else by them, so I should imagine Ain't No Cure didn't really do much on the Bananarama version.
There was a couple of songs that should have been bigger. The Bananarama Please Yourself album was good, but on the whole sounded very under-produced, especially Last Thing On My Mind which completely missed the mark. I was releived when Steps recorded it, they did a far better job.

I agree, Steps did a much better job with "Last thing", if only they left Better the devil you know alone!Funny, but i don't seem to be able to listen to any Steps songs anymore, they all sound so dated now, whereas i can listen to a lot of the mid 80's and early 90's PWL/SAW stuff and still sounds good.Is it just me?

No one should try and cover Better The Devil You Know. That's just a no no. Their Chain Reaction cover was pushing their luck a bit as well.
Yes, I agree it does sound a bit dated now. I haven't listened to Steps in a while now, I think if I leave and save it for a long car journey, I will still like enjoy it as much. Theres quite a bit late 90's that sounds dated. I was struck by how dated the Solid HarmoniE CD when I put it on the other day.

I'm afraid a lot of the dance stuff from say '94 and '95 are sounding terrible today. Can anybody still listen to Total eclipse of the heart(Nicki French)?I used to love Clubhouse (Light my fire),D.ream and Corona but i can't even listen to Rhythm of the night anymore without feeling unwell!

Oh, I know what you mean by that. But Rhythm Of The Night, I Luv U Baby, The Key:The Secret, and Total Eclipse all remind me of my clubbing days as a late teen, so I am more than happy to not hear them for a long while (well not without cringing anyway). Sunshine After The Rain is another one that might have to be left in vaults for the fear it has aged as well!

I think I have that on 12" I have it on cassette single which is in a box of tapes in my parents attic (which they keep threatening to throw out, but have no room to store here ) Wasn't it the first one on the new *pwl* label when they went their own ways in the early 90's?

It's a great song, i think he was the singer in the group Yell which had a hit with the Dan Hartman song Instant Replay. What was it again?PWL Continental or was that for 2 Unlimited ? And no, i haven't seen the Sheila's ad on SA tv, then again i watch very little tv, mostly news and sattelite tv.

They had a hit with Instant Replay but their SAW produced One Thing Leads To Another flopped. Once again SAW reused the song for Boy Krazy whereupon, it flopped again. The Boy Krazy was better, but I think it was the 12" remix that made it stand out more than the single version. Oh, and The Sheilas: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrKaQRIXPNwYou may see why I'm a bit skeptical about it being a "success". It may be reserved to a SAW loon thing, but we'll see....

Didn't spot this thread til now .... Posted by Smurfie: Take that back ! lol.I love it ! I love Boy Krazy too,but Toutes Les Filles version is almost equally fab.I also love Sheryl Jay (lead singer of TLF) version of Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jams 'Let The Beat Hit 'Em'.It.Is.Amaaaazing.Shoulda been a # 1. Ooh Paul Varney.I think the only song i have of his, is on the soundtrack to the movie 'Up 'N ' Under'.Track called 'The Only One' gets many plays on my ipod. I bought the Yell album from an ebay seller in Japan about a yr ago.All these years ,i never even knew that there had been a Yell album ! A shame he never had a solo hit although he did write a top ten hit for Eurovision girlband Precious -'Say It Again'. I wonder did he ever record it himself !? I never heard his own Eurovision attempt from a couple of years earlier (that wasn't selected) - did any of you hear it ?

thanx for joining in as it was fast turning into a 2 man operation here! I'm not keen at all on most stuff that came out of the S/A period dring the mid to late 90's.The classic PWL productions from the mid 80's to early 90's had something about them that still sounds great today.I'm doing the DJ ing at my cousins wedding on 1 Sept and i will definitely be spinning some old SAW records!

In fact the Precious album wasn't THAT bad, I loved New Beginning and Rewind! What was PV song for Eurovision? I have to say, it vaguely rings a bell.

*** heads to Capetown for a SAW boogie frenzy *** Hope it goes well, and of course it will, you'll be spinning the best tunes ! Will someone take over for a while so that you get to go on the dancefloor ? I really think that the Precious album would be in my top ten albums of all time !It's THAT good. 'Say It Again' was 1999. Pauls own entry was in 1997.Ok I'm gonna have to look in a Eurovish fanzine for his (yes I am that geeky to be a subscriber ) Taken from OGAE news by Robert Unsworth ,(some of) his review of The Great British Song Contest 97: '' ....having received two radio plays each during the week, all 8 songs were aired again on Ken Bruces morning show;after which the telephone lines were opened for the public to vote.I assume that the reasons for restricting the semi final to Radio2 were twofold.Firstly it enabled the BBC to cut costs, and secondly it reduced the risk of voters under the age of forty making their prescence felt to any real degree......'' '' Paul Varney ,one time member of abysmal pop duo Yell, was the performer of the first song ,'Can't You See I'm Crying' (written by Rohan Heath & Steve Long). This was an irritatingly repetitious piece of dreary 'Boy pop.'' So ,anyway, the top 4 songs with the most votes went through to the live tv final. Paul didn't make it,neither did Laura Pallas,Dave Black,B Yond (B Yond was the reviewers favourite). The order of who came 5th ,6th ,7th,8th wasn't revealed. At the end of the tv final, the results were as follows : 4th - Sam Blue -For The Life You Don't Yet Know' 3rd- Joanne May- 'You Stayed Away Too Long' (she was the favourite to win) 2nd- Do Re Mi feat kerry (later known as Kerry McGregor from X Factor) - 'Yodel In The Canyon Of Love' 1st - Katrina & The Waves - 'Love Shine a Light' I bought the singles of katrina, and Joanne May.I found Kerry song on the net. Anyhoo I've so gone off topic ,when there's a perfectly good Eurovish section over the other part of the board.lol. So back to all things SAW.....

2nd- Do Re Mi feat kerry (later known as Kerry McGregor from X Factor) - 'Yodel In The Canyon Of Love' I remember the final for this but had never quite put this song and X-factor contestant together as being the same person. I am now dying to this again. The title itself makes me want to love it. *goes searching*
