Stop... listen... LEARN... (Although surely you'll know these)
To get into this list, I generally have to own at least one of their albums, so that I can know enough of their music - there are THREE exceptions to this rule, but none of them in my top 25. Also in the 26-30 group are two bands whom I have albums of, but didn't play much after buying and rating.
26 Easyworld BEST KNOWN TRACK: "Try Not To Think" (#49 of ever)
27 Mew BEST KNOWN TRACK: "Comforting Sounds" (#18)
28 Stereophonics BEST KNOWN TRACK: "Half The Lies You Tell Ain't True" (#124) ALBUMS OWNED: "Word Gets Around" (79%, 39th) "Performance And Cocktails" (78%, 40th)
29 Travis BEST KNOWN TRACK: "Why Does It Always Rain On Me" (#172) ALBUM OWNED: "The Man Who" (81%, 35th)
30 The Verve BEST KNOWN TRACK: "Sonnet" (#39)
Must go to dinner now - group 21-25 comes soon, containing something old, something new, something odd, and somewhere only we knew.

21 Biffy ClyroBEST KNOWN TRACK: "Christopher's River" (#74) OWNED ALBUM: Blackened Sky (84%, 25th) A very random band, with some gorgeous tracks made to bring people close to tears, and some random ones, that are just made to go TWANG or have odd names like "Toys, Toys, Toys, Choke, Toys, Toys, Toys", "Now the action's on fire!" and the famous "And The Scissorkick is Victorious". 22 KinesisBEST KNOWN TRACK: "Billboard Beauty" (#59) OWNED ALBUM: Handshakes For Bullets (80%, 37th) Politically-inclined hard rock, with catchy kicks and a voice laden with spite, this movement (sorry) came to my attention late this year, with the above album and song. Accusing televisions and clinging to innocence all the way. The flowers may be dead, but Kinesis are alive. 23 KeaneBEST KNOWN TRACK: "Bend And Break" or "Sunshine" or "Bedshaped" (n/a) OWNED ALBUM: Hopes And Fears (tbc) A fact not many people know: KEANE WENT TO MY COLLEGE . They are from nearby Battle, and the new entry here - I bought their album from le Virgin Megamagasin on the Champs-Ellysées in Paris. Am rating now, I promise They must be the only band in my collection not to have a guitarist of ANY sort - instead relying on pianos, to a good original effect. 24 Red Hot Chili PeppersBEST KNOWN TRACK: "Scar Tissue" (#58) OWNED ALBUM: Californication (74%, #48) One of the most famous bands on the planet. They have some tremendous anthems (Under The Bridge, Scar Tissue, Californication, Otherside...) but also some stinkers (i.e., their rap element ), otherwise they'd definitely be in my top 20. 25 The Dire StraitsBEST KNOWN TRACK: "Brothers In Arms" (#44) OWNED ALBUM: Sultans Of Swing (tbc) The only old-style band in my collection. Mark Knopfler and his sultans are a top-class group, and their bestof album is CERTAINLY worth getting.

16 Franz Ferdinand[/i] BEST KNOWN TRACK: Take Me Out (#20) ALBUM OWNED: Franz Ferdinand (84%, 24th out of 54) One of Sofie's choices (excuse the pun) takes a tumble, this is another band on the up. With more albums like the first, it can break the top 15... 17 Nirvana[/i] BEST KNOWN TRACK: Lithium (#11) ALBUM OWNED: Nirvana (84%, 25th out of 54) On the way down, I don't listen to them as much as they used to, but still, Nirvana are a great band, albeit on the depressing side 18 The Coral[/i] BEST KNOWN TRACK: Goodbye (#53) ALBUMS OWNED: 1. The Coral (83%, 32nd) 2. Nightfreak... (78%, 42nd) A strange, twangy band with a very fast output of albums are the coral - looking for more from their albums though. 19 Foo Fighters[/i] BEST KNOWN TRACK: Breakout (#54) ALBUM OWNED: One By One (82%, 34th) Several classic songs, but I only own one album, and again I don't listen to that one very much anymore 20 Blink 182[/i] BEST KNOWN TRACK: All The Small Things (#24) ALBUM OWNED: Take Off Your Pants And Jacket (through Simon's collection, unrated) Blink 182 (through Simon's collection, 81%, 37th) Always. I know. You'll be. At my show. Watching. Waiting. Commiserating. This song alone is enough to get them in the top 30, but they're lifted higher by some great and more mature songs off their latest album, and held back by, well, most of their juvenile stuff. Still decent.

To intrigue you further:
11 Iron Maiden[/i] ALBUM OWNED: Best Of The Beast (85%, 15th out of 55) TOP FIVE SONGS: 22 Hallowed Be Thy Name 95 Aces High 173 Man On The Edge 218 Wasted Years 247 The Trooper
12 Coldplay[/i] ALBUMS OWNED: Parachutes (88%, 6th) A Rush Of Blood To The Head (84%, 25th) TOP FIVE SONGS: 033 Yellow 119 The Scientist *** Everything's Not Lost *** Shiver *** Daylight (*** - not owned at time of compilation of top 275)
13 Oasis[/i] ALBUM OWNED: Definitely Maybe (85%, 17th) BEST KNOWN SONG: Wonderwall (#76)
14 Blur[/i] ALBUMS OWNED: The Best Of (83%, 31st) Modern Life Is Rubbish (unrated as yet) BEST KNOWN SONG: Coffee And TV (#38)
15 Snow Patrol[/i] ALBUM OWNED: Final Straw (86%, 12th) BEST KNOWN SONG: Run (#21)
Iron Maiden beats Coldplay because I can listen to their music in pretty much all situations... and their instrumentals in general are amazing... the latter have shot up after my getting used to their two albums... Oasis beat Blur, because their music in general is better - one or two songs I don't like much from Def. Maybe, but one or two I don't like much from the Blur best of. Snow Patrol are very much on the up in my estimation, and will probably be higher once I get hold of their previous albums.
COMING SOON TO A DESKTOP NEAR YOU: THE TOP 10!

08 Idlewild[/i] ALBUMS OWNED: The Remote Part (88%, 7th) 100 Broken Windows (86%, 11th) Hope Is Important (67%, 53rd) TOP TEN SONGS: 1) 10 In Remote Part/Scottish Fiction 2) 85 A Modern Way Of Letting Go 3) 96 I Am What I Am Not 4) 108 These Wooden Ideas 5) 136 Idea Track 6) 178 You Held The World In Your Arms 7) 196 When I Argue I See Shapes 8) 204 Little Discourage 9) 217 Paint Nothing 10) 242 Stay The Same 09 The White Stripes[/i] ALBUMS OWNED: Elephant (84%, 21st) White Blood Cells (77%, 45th) TOP SIX SONGS: 1) 29 Black Math 2) 35 Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine 3) 55 Fell In Love With A Girl 4) 64 Hypnotize 5) 122 Seven Nation Army 6) 202 The Hardest Button To Button 10 R.E.M.[/i] ALBUM OWNED: In Time - The Best Of (84%, 19th) TOP SIX SONGS: 1) 42 Everybody Hurts 2) 70 Losing My Religion 3) 126 At My Most Beautiful 4) 184 Man On The Moon 5) 187 Imitation Of Life 6) 197 The Great Beyond Sneaking into the top 10, R.E.M. are a relatively recent discovery to me - well, I've always been aware of their music, but never heard one of their albums before I got 'In Time' during December 2003. If I deem their previous albums as good as some of the best of, they can rise. Idlewild have two fantastic albums, and 'Hope Is Important' Interestingly, my top three idlewild songs are all from 'The Remote Part', and in fact half of my top 10 is. The highest HII song represented is... SHAPES!!The White Stripes are quite a unique band, but they only get to #9 because their album tracks are often less than impressive Numbers 6 and 7 up as soon as somebody replies ;D

We apologise for the delay in completing the top 30 bands. Those responsible wish it to be known that they have been sacked. The end of the rundown has been completed in a completely different style, at great expense, at the last minute.
