Following the Olympics, there's much speculation about who will win the BBC's award in December.
Who would be on your shortlist of 10 on the night?
This would be mine. It contains 4 cyclists but I think all are worthy of inclusion.
CHRIS HOY 3 Olympic golds, 4 in total.
REBECCA ADLINGTON Britain's first female gold medallist in swimming since 1960, ended up with 2 golds and a world record.
LEWIS HAMILTON Leading the F1 World Championship once again.
BEN AINSLIE 3 consecutive Olympic gold medals. Plans to equal Steve Redgrave's record.
BRADLEY WIGGINS 2 golds in Beijing to go with the one he won in Athens.
VICTORIA PENDLETON Only one gold in Beijing but that was because the women have less events. The World Championships showed what she's capable of.
MARK CAVENDISH The only British track cyclist not to win a medal in Beijing but 4 Tour de France stage wins is an amazing achievement.
CHRISTINE OHURUOGU Britain's only athletics gold medallist in Beijing.
JOE CALZAGHE Maintained his unbeaten record by beating Bernard Hopkins in his own back yard.
ANDY MURRAY An exciting run at Wimbledon followed by his first Masters title.

Ryan Giggs? 10 Premier League titles, surely got to be worth more than some of those.

Definitely has to be Chris Hoy - 3 Golds in one games. No-one comes close and he's got a very admirable personality.
Ben Ainslie deserves something due to his consistency but sailing doesn't capture the public imagination as much.

Personally I would like to see Chris Hoy win.
But if Hamilton wins the F1 Championship then my money is on him to win.

If Hamilton wins easy he'll win, if he wins by a bit I think it'll be Hoy or Adlington. Hopefully Hoy, far more deserving however he's not young, female, blonde and pretty so won't!

Regardless of what Murray or Hamilton do between now and the end of the year, I think it will be an Olympian, most likely Hoy.
Murray and Hamilton are not very well liked by the British public at all

A week ago I said I would go for Hoy but I'm surprised to see so many of the same mind.

Odds have Rebecca Adlington first, then Murray then Hoy. I mean Adlington is good but two golds is less than 3.

Murray ahead of Hoy is ridiculous.
I'd now have Nicole Cooke in the top 10 after she added the World title to her Olympic gold. One of the Paralympians will probably make the top 10 as well, maybe Dave Roberts.

In addition to that, it'll be interesting to see who wins the Young Sports Personality award. It will surely be between Ellie Simmonds and Laura Robson.

Anyone but Murray!

Sorry I made a clanger - it's Louis Hamilton after Adlington. Murray's odds tumbled to second place when he was due to play in the US final then went back out when he lost to Federer. Possible - back in 1992 Nigel Mansell won over Linford Christie.

Yes, F1 champion = Sports Personality Of The Year, based on the last 2 occasions it's happened. There was also Damon Hill in 1996, ahead of Steve Redgrave. James Hunt was runner-up in 1976, behind John Curry. However, I'm not sure Lewis Hamilton is popular enough with the general public to finish ahead of Adlington and Hoy even if he wins the F1 title.
It's only in recent years that Summer Olympics athletes have done well in the award. When Steve Redgrave won in 2000 he was the first Summer Olympian to win since Mary Peters in 1972.
Until the phone voting was brought in, the bulk of the voters were housewives who read the Radio Times, meaning ice skaters tended to do very well, winning in 1976, 1980 and 1984.

Did you not see the endless amount of tabloid pictures she had with new shoes?

Lewis Hamilton now favourite - guess the closeness in time of the end of the Formula 1 season with the vote for Sports Personality means its fresh in everyone's memory.
