Can not believe it is that time already, in fact I usually start on December 1st. Well I thought 2008 was not a classic year by any strtech, I struggled to actually make a list of 200 great tracks when some years Im am working from a short list of 400.
The top 3 have changed positions a couple of times already and may still change but here is the first list 200-191
200 Ryan Adams - Fix It 199 Black Kids - I'm Making Eyes At You 198 Feeder - We Are The People 197 Long Blondes – Century 196 Foxboro Hot Tubs - Mother Mary 195 Oasis - I'm Outta Time 194 Travis - J - Smith 193 The Raconteurs – Salute Your Solution 192 The Coral – Put The Sun Back 191 Sons & Daughters – This Gift

5 of those reached my chart, I think, including "This Gift" which was a 3-week #1. Don't know the Black Kids one - was it before '...teach her how to dance...'?

I've been thinking that, too. I'd really be struggling if I was doing a top 200, rather than 100. Of your first 10, at least one should be in my top 100.

I don't know of Headlock by Esser but he is doing well in my chart now with Satisfied and had one other single earlier in 2008 on my playlist with I Love You in April.
I think 2008 wasn't a bad year overall but wasn't as good as 2007, however I have to judge each year on the amount of music I had available to me and my playlists have generally got a lot bigger since the start of 2007. My chart saw 5 #1s this year stay 5 weeks or more at #1 compared with none in 2007 but often years where I have a lot of long-running #1s are not such great years (1993 is a prime example of this, the year considered overall the weakest year ever in my chart history).
My chart of the year is compiled just after the last Saturday of the year (which this year is 27 December).
If you compile yours on 1st December what happens to December releases? Do they go in the following year's chart?

December releases are already in my chart not to mention some Jan-Feb 2009 ones but if anything amazing appears in the next 2-3 weeks that I havent heard then it will go to next year but that never happens. I have a pretty good idae how the next 2 weeks of charts will go for me. Most releases in the next 2-3 weeks are dodgy Xmas singles or established acts anyway and I know theses ones already eg look at release schedule for 22 December Esser -Headlock was only on iTunes it was a pain getting it, the song had been played for 2 months on the radio before I managed to find it anywhere. 'Satisfied' is doing ok for me as well but its not as good as 'Headlock'

Quite a lot of those were hits in my chart. Feeder's "Tracing Lines" reached #2, their second biggest NM hit ever.
Given that Keane's "This Is The Last Time" was my #3 single of the year in 2003 spending 5 weeks at #1 before anyone had ever heard of them, I'm quite disappointed that I don't think that much of their stuff now.

Wow, I'd struggle to do a Top 200 of the year. There's a few tunes I like here but lots more I don't know!

I was rather disappointed with Mistress Mabel. I did like Look Out Sunshine though - I prefer the anthemic sing-a-long ones.

I've never been a big Fratellis fan ever really but this one was alright but it just shows how weak the list is tbh. But now it gets very strong any of these could have been top 100 130 Black Francis – The Seus129 KT Tunstall - If Only128 LCD Soundsystem - Time To Get Away127 Wombats – Kill The Director 126 The Stills – Being Here125 The Courteeneers - That Kiss124 The Last Shadow Puppets - My Mistakes Were Made For You123 Flobots - Handlebars122 Nada Surf – I Like What You Say121 Sigur Ros - Vid Spilum EndalaustMore Wombats and Last Shadow Puppets to come and 2 more from Sigur Ros
