Forced pitstops are stupid anyway.

Filippi, Zuber and the Ocean cars have really surprised me this year. Another great qualifying for them all.
Filippi's best qualifying since Blegium 2007. I'm glad he's back on form this year

Cracking race, especially the opening laps - Grosjean tried to pass Filippi but got squeezed out and when Filippi was pressuring Hulkenberg for the lead, they got it all wrong in the final sequence of corners that Petrov zipped by and went on to completely dominate (safety car aside). The Ocean car was the only one that was remotely comparable in terms of pace but Chandhok didn't get off the line and Parente lost it in turn 8.
Result is still provisional however - Hulkenberg and van der Garde overtook under yellow flags, so expect them to get 25s penalties and Zuber and di Grassi to get points and be on the front row for tomorrow
Edit: Of the points-scorers only van der Garde got a penalty, and it was for overtaking the safety car. di Grassi is classified in 8th and takes pole for tomorrow. He must win tomorrow to keep in touch for the title

And yet Lewis Hamilton got disqualified for doing that back in 2006... Unless, of course, you mean 'overtaking under the safety car'.

And yet Lewis Hamilton got disqualified for doing that back in 2006... Unless, of course, you mean 'overtaking under the safety car'. No, van der Garde overtook the safety car when leaving the pitlane. And before you decide that the powers that be were harsh on Hamilton before he got to F1, he blatantly overtook the safety car on track in that race (Imola I think it was)

van der Garde has also been given a 10-place grid penalty for race 2, as has Romain Grosjean (for the same offence).
This whole episode seems quite odd given that the safety car must have been in one of two places when it was passed:
1. It was in the pitlane (or the exit) itself, in which case the overtaking moves were both silly and highly dangerous (meaning that the drivers would probably have received a fine).
or
2. The safety car was on the track while the drivers were leaving the pitlane - in which case the drivers should not have been allowed to leave the pits at all (cf Montoya, Massa, Fisichella in Canada).

Not the most interesting sprint race in the world, but it does mean that Petrov is the new championship leader. Grosjean definitely has the legs on him when things are going well, but I fully expect him to replace Piquet at Renault at some point (Hungary is supposedly Nelson's last chance). If that is the case Petrov has an excellent chance of winning the championship.

Good races today for both GP2 and F2. Exceptional performances from Perez in GP2 and Piscopo in the F2 race. Perez started at the back and Piscopo started from the pitlane and came through the field nicely. I'm still amazed that Valerio has finally come good. I never expected him to win a race in GP2. He was awful last year at Durango. I remember di Grassi commentating on the Monaco sprint race for ITV4 last year and saying that Valerio always spins!! GP2 sprint race should be interesting with some very quick and experienced drivers at the sharp end of the grid - 1. Zuber, 2. Maldonado, 3. Chandhok, 4. Grosjean. I sincerely hope Chandhok wins; ORT have had rotten luck this year

Why is Ernesto Viso called EJ Viso all of a sudden? Is it entirely to appeal to the American market is they quite like drivers who use their initials instead of their name? Or is it because he always wanted a Jordan drive?!
