It's a foregone conclusion since Paul the octopus has chosen Spain.

Cheers mrh, well done, now if only I hadn't missed those games in Group H Thanks, and bad luck, Andy. If it's any consolation, those would've only given you an extra 8 points and that's assuming you would've picked Switzerland to beat Spain... Thanks to everyone who played. Roll on the 2010/11 Footy Predicta!

If only I hadn't missed off my QF predictions, though whether only 2 correct answers would have made much difference i'm not too sure..

I ran a World Cup Prediction Game at work which for simplification purposes I asked people to select the Top 4 Finishers in order, with the tie-breaker (not needed) being the number of goals in the tournament (excluding penalty shoot-outs).
With a points system of
Winner = 100 Pts Runner Up = 70 Pts 3rd Place = 50 Pts 4th Place = 40 Pts Losing Q-Final = 20 Pts Lost in Last 16 = 10 Points 3rd Place in Group = 5 Pts
With the Top Four predictions being that the maximum they can score equalled the maximum for that position (as an example I predicted Spain to finish runners up (behind Brazil; with Holland 3rd & Ghana 4th)); so the maximum eligible I could score for them was 70 Points, and not the 100 Points available as winners.
The person who won the contest predicted the Top three in the correct order (1st Spain; 2nd Holland; 3rd Germany; but predicted England in 4th) so scored 100+70+50+10 = 230 out of a possible 260 Points available. Funnily enough his name is Paul and he works in Projects so I wrote up an entertaining Psychic Octopus analogy in my final results email.
Interestingly out of the 36 of us who played no one predicted England would win the tournament (proving some small evidence that it was a myth from the UK media & Scotland that people in England expected to win the tournament); and everyone over predicted the number of goals scored in the tournament (the nearest/lowest predicted was 149 goals).

Interesting stuff. If I've understood the scoring system correctly, I would've scored 170 points, having predicted a top 4 of Spain, Brazil, England and Germany...
