Welcome to FOOTY PREDICTA 2010/11The rules are simple: - Every week, ten matches are selected from the Saturday fixture list, usually from the Premier League and Championship.
- You have to predict whether you think each game will finish in a home win (HW), draw (D) or away win (AW)
- Then, rank from 1 (least confident) to 10 (most confident) how confident you are on each prediction. Each number from 1-10 can only be used once.
- Correct predictions: you score 10* your confidence level (HW 4 + home win = 40 pts)
- Incorrect predictions: you are penalised by your confidence level! (HW 4 + draw or away win = -4 pts)
- Predictions must be submitted by kick-off for each game (this is usually 3pm on the Saturday)
If someone is late or matches are postponed: - If you are late, you can still predict for late kick-offs, but you must use only your lowest ranks (e.g. if there are 3 games left, you can only use 1, 2 or 3)
- If a match is postponed, then that week will be played with only 9 matches, but predictors use ranks 2-10 (i.e. only the lowest rank is lost). Further postponements are treated in a similar way.
- If more than half of the matches in a week are postponed, then the gameweek is cancelled and no points are scored. (this has only happened once)
The game begins on SATURDAY 7 AUGUST and will continue until the end of the Premier League season in May 2011. Good luck! ----------------- ROLL OF HONOURAnnual winners[/u] 2009/10: Robin 2008/09: Robin 2007/08: 2006 (Jan-Dec): Robin 2005 (Jan-Dec): misterhamster 2004 (Jan-Dec): Shania Monthly winners 2010/11[/u] August: raliverpool, 1254 pts Weekly winners 2010/11[/u] 7/8: Earl Purple, 308 14/8: Tom, 374 21/8: Frag, 418 (highest score) 28/8: Frag, 407 4/9: misterhamster, 143 (lowest winning score)

Cheers Frag, great to see it back, hope we pick up one or two new players, raliverpool may be interested? I'll maybe have to do my predictions soonish, as I'm away next week, but we are taking the laptop

First game, as if anyone has any idea who is strong and who isn't! The first round is typically one of the hardest, although the winning score in the first week last year was 418, well above the average winning score. misterhamster and Robin then got 539 (almost a perfect score) just two weeks later. I'll have fixtures up to the end of August posted tonight, along with rules.

Middlesbrough vs Ipswich seemed to let everyone down. Fortunately for me it was only my 1, a general rule for any match involving Ipswich.

RESULTS: AUGUST 7th 1. Earl Purple 308 2. raliverpool 286 3=. Andy 253 3=. Maximo Mark 253 5. Tom 220 6=. Frag 132 6=. wonderwall 132 8. misterhamster 88 9. paddy 33
With Champion Robin (who has won for at least two years running) missing out, last season's 2nd-place Earl Purple takes full advantage by winning this gameweek. Debutant raliverpool scores a very impressive 2nd place, while Andy and returning Maximo Mark are tied in third.
This week's stats Average score: 189.44 Easiest to predict: Sheff Wed 2-0 Dag & Red: 850 pts (9/9 correct) Hardest to predict: Middlesbrough 1-3 Ipswich: -71 pts (0/9 correct)
189.44 is below the average for a gameweek, so as expected, the first week was difficult, with shock defeats for Middlesbrough, Preston and Tranmere contributing.

Saturday, 14 August 2010 The Premier League returns, with the champions in predicta action on the first day. Elsewhere, Reading go to Fratton Park for the first time since losing 7-4 there in an amazing match in September 2007.
Aston Villa v West Ham Blackburn v Everton Bolton v Fulham Chelsea v West Brom (17:30) Sunderland v Birmingham Barnsley v Crystal Palace Millwall v Hull Portsmouth v Reading Sheff Utd v QPR Watford v Coventry
Previously, international weeks have had a selection of international matches (WC/Euro qualifiers). However, these games will now take place on Friday. Would people prefer to still have international games (but have to predict a day earlier), or would they prefer to have games from League One/Two instead?
