Buck's Fizz Top 10!
Surprised to see Jam so low - don't think Shakin' Stevens is THAT bad.

I am not surprised about the five songs in the top 3. More surprised about Adam Ant's low position and Charlene not being close to propping up the table, instead occupying a safe mid-table position.
1981 next? Obviously we all know Shaddup You Face will finish last but it will be interesting to see where all the others finish.

Thanks Andy. Overall a good result, glad Irene Cara made top 3. Come on Eilleen was a great tune then, it just got overplayed too much at parties and cannot listen to it anymore now.

I think people judge them relatively. In a bad year you will lower your standard for an 8, 9 or 10 vote. So it's not really fair to compare by year.

Charlene above Adam Ant? Music is wasted on some people.

Is this the correct list for 1981? John Lennon – Imagine John Lennon – Woman Joe Dolce Music Theatre – Shaddap your face Roxy Music – Jealous guy Shakin Stevens – This old house Bucks Fizz – Making your mind up Adam and the Ants – Stand and deliver Smokey Robinson – Being with you Michael Jackson – One day in your life Specials – Ghost town Shakin Stevens – Green door Aneka – Japanese boy Soft Cell – Tainted love Adam and the Ants – Prince charming Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin – It’s my party Police – Every little thing she does is magic Queen & David Bowie – Under pressure Julio Iglesias – Begin the beguine Human League – Don’t you want mePlus when we finish 1981 and 1980, I'm thinking of running a poll for the 10 winners, and you can only choose ONE, and then we'll see who the ultimate victor is.

Can't we use the NME chart instead? We gain Vienna and two Happy Birthdays...

Charlene above Adam Ant? Music is wasted on some people. Indeed. It is criminal that the utterly rank track by Charlene should finish ahead of Goody Two Shoes & Beat Surrender. Again further proof that young posters don't like being preached to nowadays, as both of those songs were making a statement. Goody Two Shoes was a lyrical pop at the hypocritical media (as relevant today as it was back then); and Beat Surrender was a caustic pop at the way the media & public celebrated winning the Falklands Islands conflict (as relevant today, as it was back then). I guess posters on here prefer an outdated anti-feminist & anti-abortion anthem with some truly puke inducing lyrics, that was adopted by Ronald Reagan in political rallies in the 1980s. The same buffoon who said: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgSSRE27GQ0

I presume they just prefer the sound of Charlene to Adam Ant and the Jam, nothing more, nothing less, but there you go...

I presume they just prefer the sound of Charlene to Adam Ant and the Jam, nothing more, nothing less, but there you go... Exactly ! I love the Charlene song. I do 'get' why others don't like it,but I like the tune, and her voice, and the ott lyrics. I didn't know the song originally.I knew a speeded up Almighty cover (1995ish),and only got to hear the original when it was used in 'Priscilla Queen of the Desert'. So,that's another reason for me to like it - it makes me think of that movie, and also of Jennifer Saunders character from Ab Fab ''..cause I've been to paradise, sweetie, but I've never been to me. And I need to find out ...who...me....be.''
