I found it odd that they had Heavy Metal Boyz on last week, and it was never a hit, I thought they only picked songs that were in the Top 40? There have been quite a few non top 40 acts. A week or so ago they had City Boy on. They didn't have a hit until 1978 (5-7-0-5). It just goes to show that this rule about only having songs in the charts was a myth. Or, if you prefer it in tabloid headline style "HITS RULE IS A MYTH" All to do with payolo having non-charting acts on i believe. A continuing trend in that era.

Was that the last TOTP performance by T Rex, they looked very different from their early glam days, and I dont think they had another Top 40 hit before his death the following year... Marc Bolan's last TOTP appearance was in 1977 promoting the UK#42 smash hit, the new wave sounding "Soul Of My Suit", when he'd gone on a fitness regime and had slimmed down to look like (bizarrely) Katie Melua's dad!. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNnaBM6uKmwand here is that very performance www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWA2OT3eQaI

TOTP reverts to Wednesdays from tonight, and next week. 7.30, and 1.00, doesn't look like tonight's is edited as the late night version is 30 mins.

And they've missed a week out. They just had to mess around with it, didn't they?

Next week's show features It Only Takes A Minute by 100 Ton and A Feather aka Jonathan King. If they show that it will make the decision to airbrush Gary Glitter out of music history even more ridiculous. He went to prison for sexual assault against boys but hasn't received the Gary Glitter treatment.

Jonathan King song was edited out of both showings, not surprisingly was edited out in the early edition, but also edited out of the later edition which was supposedly meant to be unedited.
The song was rubbish anyway though so no great loss.

No wonder these payola tracks bombed, some of them were awful.

Last night was so bad they should have edited out a few more, Starfighter (who?) and Glamourpuss (really?) for starters.

Who the hell were Glamourpuss, another song that got nowhere near the charts and you could see why!

Last night's was particularly dire - and particularly full of songs (and bands) which got nowhere near the top 30. A well deserved obscurity was in wait for all of them.

Very poor edition, yes. Was Queen's You're My Best Friend never on then?
