"Plein Soleil" for the late Alain Delon (hot!) and an adaptation of Ripley I hadn't seen yet.

For me it made perfect sense given what goes down in those prequels! *SPOILERS* I would have wanted it to end before it went all 'Resurrection' and for that character to have just been actually killed off when it seemed they were. I did really enjoy this, but I would much prefer it if it and other legacy sequel films like this stopped forcing so much fan service in. Make a film in these worlds to stand on their own alongside of the previous entries instead. 'Aliens' isn't great because it has moments that are a wink to 'Alien'; it creates its own. This kept trying to mimic the scene of Ripley coming off the lift, and I groaned at *that* line

For me, the ending was the most original part. It wasn't that much like Resurrection to me, but far more like Prometheus (squid baby for Dr Shaw?!). The offspring was genuinely unsettling and when you look at the guy playing that role you'll see it wasn't as much wonky CGI as the internet would lead us to believe. Actually, re-reading your spoiler-free "that character" reference, I'm not actually sure which one you mean!

To keep it vague for others; that character refers to the one that brings about the end creature, which I did think was well designed. And I very much appreciated the amount of practical effects they used. It felt like an Alien film and looked the part. The only thing I found iffy throughout all of it was Rook, but I guess when you compare it to those utterly seamless transitions of when Ash was reactivated in the original... π Haha I hadn't thought of that in terms of the timeline!

I didnt mind Alien: Romulus, yes the repurposed lines and scenes were a little annoying but apart from that it was possibly the 3rd best Alien movie although that the gulf between it and the top 2 is massive.
For me I will always hate Alien3 more than any other , even though it does get good but for how it treated Newt and Hicks, I will never forgive it.
I try to pretend the Prometheus movies never happened andAvP donβt count .
Hope the Alien tv show is good but I think setting it before Alien is wrong, I think 50 years later would be more plausible as it will be on Earth.

Personally, I've never had a problem with AlienΒ³ killing off Newt and Hicks. For me, the ranking of most to least favourite goes: Alien Aliens Β³ Romulus Resurrection Prometheus Covenant AvP Requiem

We watched those 4 back to back a few weeks ago and not only is it as crushing as ever regarding Newt and Hicks but Ripley jumps Clemens like she's been waiting 57 years for a shag! I remember in the book there's more confusion and a little bit of trying to use her charms on him to get what she needs.
