Which of these songs in the year 1984 in your view should not have been #1, I am doing polls for the whole Eighties this time, once we have 10 winners (we have to split up some years there is not enough options on a poll to match the #1's in a year plus joint winners) we will have a last poll to decide which song out of the years 1980-1989 should not have been #1.
These are 3 day polls this time.
Happy Voting

No obvious choice from 1984. My vote went to an irritatingly bouncy and vacuous song.

Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder got away with it in 1982 but I guess both may struggle here. I don't know why with Pipes Of Peace because I like it, but I know others here don't think much of it.
Stevie Wonder had so many great songs that it is a shame he didn't get them to #1. Not that he wasn't even still good, Part Time Lover was a year later and peaked at #3 and was far better than I Just Called To Say I Love You.
In any case, whilst none of the #1s were as bad as many from other years, my vote did go to Stevie.

It's not the worst song on the list but Stevie Wonder gets my vote as the song is probably the worst song he's ever written. He's written some classics but I Just Called… is utter dreck.

I predicted it would be between those two...

Could have been Wham ! (my second least favourite), but could also mean the execrable Stevie Wonder. How on earth did the rather beautiful Pipes Of Peace lose this contest ?

I don't know why people don't like Pipes Of Peace, but I think this was a particularly strong year.

It's absolutely criminal that a really great anti-war song with a highly effective video beat the utterly nauseating Stevie Wonder track; and that irritating Jim Diamond track.
I guess a recent interview with Paul Weller (circa his Wake Up The Nation album promo) lamenting that kids don't like being preached to nowadays sadly rings true.
