Hendry hasn't a hope of getting back in the 16 for some time. His season last year was atrocious and this year not much better. He needs to have a good season and a half now and with having to qualify and his motivational problems I can't see it !!

PTC and rankings update.
Stephen Lee won his opening match of PTC 12, which takes him above Ronnie.
Mark Davis beat John Higgins but then lost to Joe Perry at the last 32 stage.
At PTC 11, which is taking place this weekend, Mark Davis is through to the last 16, where he'll play Stephen Maguire. If he reaches the semi-finals, he will go above Ronnie and put him out of the top 16.
Ricky Walden still has a mathematical chance of getting into the top 16 but needs to do very well in PTC 11 to keep his hopes alive.

Looks like the masters line up is already decided. Lucky Ronnie. Imagine a masters in London without him playing.

This one will decide the seedings for the World Open, Welsh Open and China Open. The cut-off to decide the seedings for the World Championship will probably be after the Welsh Open. It would've been interesting to see what they would've done if Ronnie had dropped out before the Masters. They haven't had wild cards for the last couple of years but I bet Barry Hearn would've been desperate to have Ronnie in the tournament. The wild card at the Masters came into being because Alex Higgins had dropped out of the top 16 but was still the biggest draw in snooker.

Davis will overtake Ronnie if he beats Anthony Hamilton in the quarter-finals of PTC 11 this afternoon.

Ronnie tweeted last night about only being one day away from being out of the top 16 and that Barry Hearn would find a way to get him to the venues. What a conceited git and I think this will give him a kick up the arse especially if he misses the next cut and fails to qualify for the crucible. I'm not sure of the potential provisional rankings for the next phase when the points get taken off.

He's got a bit to lose compared to those around him in the rankings so he'd need to qualify for the next few tournaments and pick up a few wins to get his position back. He'll be in a better position next season as he doesn't have much to lose from the 2010/11 season. He's actually picked up decent points this season in between skipping events and is #6 on the unofficial one year list (some surprises on that list - Ding at 32, Carter at 36, Ebdon at 79).

Ebdon's finished for me really. He'll end up nr Jimmy White in the rankings in no time. Ali Carter is a strange one, I think he's been suffering a bit with his illness. Ding has missed a few PTC's but always looks dangerous for me (Got 2 147's in a week !!!)

Hamilton now level at 2-2 with Mavis.
Walden lost 4-1 to Dott which probably ends his top 16 hopes.

Yep. It all depends on Mark Davis now. If he loses then Ricky Walden could win PTC 12 and still scrape in. I hope Mark Davis makes it in a way. He's been banging on the door for a while now !!

Mavis goes 3-2 up. Just one frame needed to knock Ronnie out of the top 16...
Mavis has been around for ages. He was a top 48 player for quite a while then dropped down the rankings before having a revival in the last few years. He's really earned his top 16 place if he gets it.

Mark Davis's recent end of year rankings:
2004 - 40 2005 - 42 2006 - 38 2007 - 43 2008 - 58 2009 - 47 2010 - 26 2011 - 19

I wonder what the record is for the oldest debutant inside the top 16 and the longest climb to the top 16.
This is Mavis's 21st season on the Tour. At one point in the late 90s, his ranking was as low as 77.

If there wasn't enough tension already, they've had a re-rack in frame 6...

I think if Andy Hicks ever breaks into the 16 he would break all records. He must be the longest serving professional never to hit the 16.

I think he's been around as long as Mark Davis and might be slightly younger as well, though as he's unlikely to reach the top 16 any time soon, he would break the records if he did eventually get there. Came so close as well after reaching the Crucible semis.

It's a shame this match isn't being streamed. I can understand them choosing Trump's match given his current status but taking the importance into account, this was the match of the round...
