Which of these songs in the year 1974 in your view should not have been #1, I am doing polls for the whole Seventies this time, once we have 10 winners (we have to split up some years there is not enough options on a poll to match the #1's in a year plus joint winners) we will have a last poll to decide which song out of the years 1970-1979 should not have been #1.
These are 3 day polls this time.
Happy Voting

Plenty of dreadful songs to choose from here. How many people will pick Gary Glitter for the man, not for the song ?

Difficult to know Shireblogger because it's a poor song too.
In 1973 though there are far worse songs than either of his number ones.

Thought about voting for GG but in the end went for the one I detested more at the time.

Don't think I've heard that GG song. I don't think the one I voted for will win but I hear it every year and I'd rather not.

The GG song is kind of bland more than anything. Definitely one far worse - how bad "comedy/novelty" records fare the passage of time. Gotta say, I think one of the number 1s of this year is an overlooked gem - "Sad Sweet Dreamer" must be one of the best things linked with TV talent show contests before Girls Aloud...

For me it was between GG and the Osmonds. In 1973 it is no contest - the output of the Osmond family was far worse than anything Gary put out. The only question is which Osmond one to go for.
I thought Ray Stevens was quite funny actually, although I preferred Bridget The Midget to The Streak.

voted - initial thoughts the same as many of you. Will people vote for the singer rather than the song? Not great but the GG song by no means the worst.

Voted for a comedy song that is just not funny at all, and the canned laughter is so not amusing.
But again, a lot of awful #1 hits this year.

Too many strong choices...one of them though gets tipped over because of subsequent events.

subsequent events could either involve what the man himself did later in life, or a certain annoying boyband who covered it for their first ever hit.

Everyone is of course entitled to cast their vote as they wish but I don't believe this is a "true" result.

I thought Haven attracted contributors who weren't easily manipulated by tabloid-style hysteria. Seems that 26% of the voters here picked the singer not the song. "Always Yours" isn't brilliant, but there were plenty of other #1s which were less deserving.

I'm not gonna know many of the songs in the final , I don't know this one by Garyl Glitter either. I'm surprised that I'm the only one to vote for Kung Fu Fighting - such an annoying song. Those commercials annoy me too - ''better call 11- 8 - 90 Huuh - haah !''
