With Holland imploding there are now three top class teams in the world, the rest fighting their own average battle between them. Who would you say the third are?

I wonder if England vs. Italy will end up with extra time and penalties, we haven't had one yet. It be sods law it had to be England. In my opinion it'll be a clear 3-1 victory to Italy.

We really don't know how well they do though, I don't think the current England team have had a game with Italy for a while. And from what I have seen in the group stages I didn't think Italy played that well.

I think there will be one goal in it, or it will go to penalties, I hope to be proved wrong.

There won't be 4 goals in a game involving Italy. Like Andy says it'll be a goal that decides it or a tedious game going to penalties !!

I'd still say Uruguay, though I haven't seen them for a while their results remain impressive, top scorers in SA WC qualification so far, one point off the top with a game in hand, unbeaten in 17 games since last May. Though again, I guess they could just be the best of a fairly average bunch from that continent. By the next World Cup I would expect both Brazil and Argentina to be better, they seem to be getting there anyhow.

The game tonight can't really disappoint, everyone expects a tight dull game with few goals so there could be the potential to surprise. One journalist (may have been Henry Winter) said the other day it feels like the first game that's going to go straight to penalties, such is the feeling by fans and media in both countries.

They're definitely the best in South America at the moment but I don't think they're on the same level as Germany and Spain. Brazil and Argentina haven't been great in recent years, though Brazil are having to put up with three years of friendlies leading up to the World Cup. Both they and Argentina have a great group of individual players but aren't great teams yet. But I would expect one of those to win the World Cup in 2014.

Was waiting for a boring game...and it came last night, was almost falling asleep 2nd half! Almost didn't bother watching, wished I hadn't now... Until late on when they won the pen I didn't feel as though Spain got out of first gear in the 2nd half, and even in the first half didn't feel like they were in more than 2nd or 3rd gear. I wonder if England vs. Italy will end up with extra time and penalties, we haven't had one yet. It be sods law it had to be England. Agree, before the QFs started did kinda think one of them may well go to extra-time and/or penalties. I've predicted extra-time for tonight so could see it going to penalties. The last time we played on this date (24th June) was the Euro 2004 QF against Portugal when...we lost on penalties.

And with Italy's record in penalty shoot-outs also rather poor, how long could it take to get a result?

Bit painful to watch at times, we had a few chances to score, they had a good start, hopefully we net one in the second half.

Not a bad first half but we never looked like scoring.

Never looked like scoring? Did you miss the welbeck shot? Good game, much more exciting than anticipated!
