Well that was a brilliant episode. Love the cliffhanger at the end but how much better it would have been if they had kept the return of John Simm a secret...same for the Mondasiam Cybermen. I think there is no need for spoilers.

There have been some great episodes in this series but tonight's was probably the best of the lot.

So is Bill a goner, new assistant and new doctor? Seem to be strong rumours that Missy might take over the doctor's role, she is a timelord after all...? Or the guy from Death in Paradise, or is he this years red herring?

A tv mag that interviewed Michelle gomez asked her if she would miss Dr who when she leaves along with Moffat and capaldi and said yes. So I don't think she will be the next doctor. Very poss bill is a bonnet as well. It's all so timy wimey that anything could happen. Personally the Dr has to be male. There would be complete outroar.

Just seen a clip for the next ep. and there was a bit where the Dr and Missy were holding hands, he looked like he was regenerating, I tell you, it's going to happen. In an interview I read, it said it will be the last of Missy, and of course she was going round saying I'm Dr Who last week. I cant stand the character, so over the top, but it does seem like Dr Who has to be female to be PC, why?

I'm not sure what you mean "has to be female to be PC" as if it's not politically correct for the Doctor to be a man? The point is, he's a body-changing alien from a race which *can* change genders and some would lie to see a woman in the role. That's all. Plenty of other heroes can't swap genders (Bond, Superman, although I think Thor did in the comics for some reason!) but the Doctor can. Is your opinion the same if we had a person of colour playing the role, that it would be for "PC" reasons, whatever those are?

I'll comment on the series after it ends tomorrow evening.
But I thought all this activity in this thread was due to the bookmakers suspending bets on the casting of the 13th Doctor, where one thespian's odds dropped from 100/1 to odds-on in the last 24 Hours.
(If the casting is true, and not a trojan horse "fake news" story to garner publicity for the series finale, then I'm truly delighted .... but some people are going to have a major strop over it).

I'm not a massive Dr Who fan, so in all the early incarnations of the Doctor, was sex mentioned, ie I'm still not a woman? Or did that only arrive with new writers and a reboot. Personally if it's not an Asian woman in a wheelchair, then I shall be complaining!

I heard Michelle Gomez is leaving, but if its meant to be a woman Doctor, it could be played by someone else.
To be honest I'm all in favour to see a female Doctor to see how the series transpires into a different direction, with a male companions along the way, it might catch on, in the end, it might last just one series, and resort back to a male Doctor.

Decent last episode. Nice nod to the original doctor for the xmas epidode. We know we can have 2 Doctors around at the same time. Had 5 in an anniversary edition way back in the 80s. David Bradley. Mmmmmm. Could he . Did a good job in the bbc drama a while back playing William Hartwell. We shall see. He could be another trojan.

Nice episode, really enjoyed it, knew the water girl would have an impact after seeing her in the first episode, brings Bill back to life to travel the stars. And nice touch at the end with the original doctor greeting the current doctor.

Great episode, probably the best episode of the entire season, Peter Capaldi will be sadly missed, I actually think he did a decent job portraying the Doctor. The ending was pretty touching, with a nod to William Hartnell.
David Bradley would be a nice addition as well as the new Doctor that's if the producers decide to go full circle, by going back to the original Doctor but I doubt it.

"Nu Who" Series 10 (Series 36) Review:
The Pilot 8.5/10 - A good opener to introduce Bill, who came across as a breathe of fresh air of the previous female assistant truly outstayed her welcome.
Smile 7.5/10 - A relative unusual concept, with a very alien feel only let down by the rushed resolution.
Thin Ice 6.0/10 - A great build up, "Nathan Barley" as the baddie, the monster that was not really a monster. But a bit too PC friendly even for a Guardianista like me, it could have been ghost written by Harriet Harman, Lily Allen & Germaine Greer.
Knock Knock 8.0/10 - A good old haunted house story; "Poirot" doing his best Scoobie Doo baddy impersonation, and I quite liked how the American Horror Story ending annoyed Whovians.
Oxygen 7.5/10 - Dr Who on a space station. A genuine claustrophobic scary feel to it, even though it has clearly nicked several ideas from Alien & Gravity films, with a heavy handed moral attacking Capitalism thrown in. At least it allowed Matt Lucas' Nardole to shine with his sarcastic humour. With the great twist at the end of the Doctor being blind.
Extremis 9.0/10 - A Moffat penned episode which is complicated, with plenty of humour; and Sci-Fi in jokes (Harry Potter, Star Trek, etc). Missy (Michelle Gomez) is great in this), and best of all the FU of the ending knowing it was a simulation. Casual viewers would hate it, but I loved it.
Pyramid at the End of the World 5.5/10 - An RTD like episode. Overly simple (i.e. The two Scientists, The Doomsday Clock, The Military leaders) falling into CBBC territory. I'm not a fan of the Monks as Monsters. Only saved by the interesting ending leading to the finale of the Monks trilogy.
Lie of the Land 4.5/10 - This started out as a disturbing 1984 Sci-Fi fable on North Korea, but declined as the episode progressed. Whilst the reason for Bill to shot the Doctor did not seem to be very plausible and ring true. The nearest this series had to a Love & Monsters or Robot Of Sherwood stinker.
Empress of Mars 6.5/10 - A lightweight, but thoroughly enjoyable episode set on Mars with the Ice Warriors.
Eaters of Light 7.0/10 - The lowest overnight watched episode in Dr Who history. It deserved far better as the story of the (Scottish) Picts & the fate of the (Roman Army) Ninth Legion was great engaging.
World Enough and Time 10.0/10 - The best penultimate episode in Nu Who history. An inventive storyline and a rather dark episode, yet with a lot of humour. All the cast are great in this, especially Pearl Mackie's Bill Potts whom I think is my favourite Nu Who companion. Such a pity The S*n had spoiled things by revealing the return of John Simm's Master (so the BBC felt obliged to confirm it well in advance of the episode). And I always thought the original Mondasian Cybermen were more scary to look at than their later versions.
The Doctor Falls 9.5/10 - A great finale. In fact the best Nu Who finale. OK, so the Cybermen became canon fodder (again)... But the conclusion for now of Missy & The Master was brilliant. As was Bill Potts predicament (which I successfully guessed the conclusion to after last week's episode and posted my theory online, so felt smug that I guessed the tears related to "Lesbian Puddle Girl" The Pilot and Bill's salvation of sorts) ..... When Clara died, I felt cheated that it wasn't left to stand. It felt dramatically very wrong to have her resurrected in such a contrived way. Yet with Bill, I felt a desperate desire that Moffat bring her back to life, and huge relief when he did. Perhaps this is part because Bill felt like a real person where Clara's character rarely did. (Or perhaps because Pearl Mackie is a far better actress than Jenna Coleman is). Whilst Peter Calpaldi was on excellent form.
The real shame is it took to his 3rd & final series for "Malcolm Tucker" to get the characterisation spot on, after the show had lost circa 2 million viewers in the previous two series. But how much was that due to having Bill Potts & Nardole as foils this series instead of Clara Oswald & Danny Pink?
All in all the best Series of Nu Who since Series 4 IMHO. Roll on the Christmas Special & David Bradley as the first Doctor in what I presume is a tie up to the final William Hartnell story The Tenth Planet (featuring the first appearance of the Cybermen) where William Hartnell did not appear in the third episode due to ill health) & it was quickly rewritten that he had to go to Antarctica on Planet Earth on some unspecific business......

My 13 year old nephew wondered if the Master killing his future self created a paradox?

If you kill your future self you'll create a version of yourself that now knows exactly what you are going to do, so you would know where and when you are going to kill yourself so you can avoid it I guess. At worst if its inevitable you would just loop the same event but timelords can bend space and time so are they ever truly dead. If you died in 2018 there's nothing stopping you from 1995 2002 2012 and 2015 travelling to the year 2018 to carry on. You from 2000 could even travel to 2019 to carry on.
I always thought two of the same person bumping into each other in the first place was a paradox

In Doctor Who, they've established that when two Time Lords meet, the later version doesn't remember what happened whilst ever the two of them are together, so he can't rely on his earlier memories to guide him through the events. He/she only remembers things afterwards. Look at the 50th special "The Day of the Doctor", where the Eleventh and Tenth Doctors can't remember what the War Doctor did, but they are able to 'set up' an event in the past so that it's there in the present, such as running a program on the sonic screwdriver or the Master being told to always have a spare dematerialisation circuit, which Missy then latterly has.
So, the Twelfth Doctor won't even remember that when he was the First Doctor he met the Twelfth, until they've parted company again.
