She was never a particularly big name but she turned up in a number of programmes over the years. RIP.

Olly Alexander is rumoured to be the new doctor. I don't know how true it is though - it was a Sun story!

I couldn't picture it, but still think it would be an improvement on Whittaker who I find totally unwatchable. Olly would definitely be able to bring the quirk, fun and bizarreness of the character.
I think a lot of people will write him off on the assumption he's a popstar who's had one well-taken stint as an actor, but the reality is he actually started out doing TV and film in minor to supporting roles.

Olly Alexander has since denied this, as i thought just a rumour created to drum up a story

It all just came from a comment by Russell T Davies but he has no connection with Doctor Who anymore and therefore no influence on the casting.
I'll be very surprised if Olly is even in the running.
I think he's too young personally. maybe in a couple of Doctor's time he'd be more suitable.

It's not his actual age more his look, he just looks too young IMO

It's a fair point. Olly looks about 5 years younger than he is where as Matt Smith has always looked like a slipper from 10 Christmases ago.

To be honest this has come as no surprise really. They just stretching it out a bit more The really good news is Chris Chibnall stepping down as showrunner.
Personally, Chris Chibnall has killed Nu-Who stone dead. He managed to turn a great Sci-Fi show into a CBBC version of Quantum Leap (for those not aware, the 1970s US sci-fi show always had a heavy morality to that week's episode/theme) with far too frequently p*ss poor scripts, and a lack of Sci-Fi, or reference to the show's history.
Sure Jodie Whittaker is not the greatest female actor who could have taken the role; and all too often you saw her two expressions.. Gormless/perplexed/confused state with mouth closed and Gormless/perplexed/confused stare with mouth open.
But anyone who saw her British film Journeyman (a Channel 4 FilmFour production) which she co-starred with the frequently excellent Paddy Considine will know she can really, really act if given a good enough script & a good enough (film) direction.
As for who I would (realistically) like to take over as the next show-runner(s)/main-writers & #14, then watch Inside No.9, and the episode The 12 Days of Christine.
Which in 30 minutes managed to tell a great story; yet be infinitely more dark; more surreal; & far more emotionally powerful than a 30 mins best of highlights reel of Chibnall/Whittaker's run.

Quantum Leap was a late 80s-early 90s show! And it was bloody brilliant.

Just coming on to say how much I loved Quantum Leap as a child as well! As for Dr Who I was giving it up anyway. And they always slip a few names into who will be the new Doctor just to throw you off the scent. I'm pretty sure all the recent ones it was not known in the press beforehand they were going to get the job?

They recycle the same names of contenders each time with one or two new names thrown in.

I think they should just axe it to be honest. Why? Because you don't like it? Selfish doesn't begin to describe it.
