Long Blondes - Giddy Stratospheres (2007) (UK # 37)I didn't know this song before. I used to play the album all the time and loved it, but for some reason I stopped following them after this.

Saw them live, they were brilliant and I can't work out why Kate Jackson is not a megastar, utterly magnetic personality. Then again she's not from London.
I doubt this is forgotten, but I'm catching up with great albums on lockdown and I basically wanted to bring back just how magnificent a song this is.
You've got the quiet opening (with the sleeping and bucolic motif), build-ups to different peaks, almost hidden instrumentation and arrangement in the background, adding a Merrie England hint to what gradually becomes a rock track. It stands apart from other things at the time, very distinctive - but then again so was much of the rest of the top 20 at the time (OMD doing a waltz, Maltloaf a hard rock&roller with Cher, Mobiles with a minimalist take on a scary fairground, Soft Cell with kitchen sink pop noir).
I come across as old man yelling at cloud, but so much of the contemporary top 20 is the same people collaborating with the same people seemingly in order so that everything can be the same. No wonder a sea shanty has caught the imagination.
I was 9 when this came out; it was one of the first singles I bought.

I don't think Electribe 101 is forgotten. It's seen as a dance classic

Two powerhouse voices joined forces for a cover of 'No More Tears'. Kym Mazelle and Jocelyn Brown's hi-nrg take is pretty fun.

Tina Cousins with 'Pray' with some Sash! sounding synths and a slightly Abba sounding chorus.
