One of those 'probably should have been a much bigger hit' songs. Lucas with 'Lucas With The Lid Off' was a minor hit.

Earlier in the thread I posted the video for 'One Rule For You' by After The Fire. That was a number 40 hit in June 1979. Four years later they came close to making the top 40 one more time with the excellent 'Der Kommissar'. Although the single peaked at a lowly #47 in the UK it did much better in the US, reaching #5.
Der Kommissar - After The Fire #47, April 1983
I bought the 12" single months before it charted. The single had originally been released in May 1982 but failed to chart and would be re-released at least twice. I think I bought the single when it was re-released for the first time later in 1982. It would chart on its second reissue. It should have been a big hit.

There was generally something of a firedrill of releases of Beatles covers every time a Beatles album came out; the acts knowing that the Fab Four did not mine their 33s for their 45s. The Macca take on reggae was one of the Beatles' low points, yet five acts quickly released covers. The Marmalade had the big hit with a fairly straight and poppy cover. But the Leeds reggae band The Bedrocks' more genuine version (produced by the regular Beatle sound engineer Hurricane Smith) was loads better, and the only other hit version.

A few years later, Saffron would cut her hair into a bob, form Republica, have an unexpected hit in the States with a UK flop, and finally score a bona fide top 10 hit.

A version of this big summer anthem called 'Samba De Janeiro' by Bellini would go on to be a huge hit, but The Heartists offered a version too.

I thought I would have remembered this but I don’t. It sounds a bit like the theme tune to This Time with Alan Partridge in places

I know, it’s around about the time I started following the charts, and the top 40 was full of football songs. I just don’t recognise it listening back

Disco hits of the mid to late 1970s were often forgotten as soon as they dropped out of the charts. But few from that era got as high as number 14 and then disappeared into oblivion, never to be heard again and as a result, became totally forgotten.
This one takes me back to the hot summer of 1975 (which was soon forgotten when the following summer was an absolute scorcher).
