No Rest - New Model Army (#28, May 1985)
I'd totally forgotten about it until I saw it on the charts that I'm currently posting.

There's an alternate history in which Abba win the Swedish Eurovision nomination in 1973, and finish mid-table in the contest itself, meaning the world never gets to hear "Waterloo". This is actually a bloody brilliant single with hints of "See My Baby Jive" yet it flopped hard in the UK.

Many re-releases couldn’t make this a hit - which is a bit of a shame as it’s a good song. It was also featured on the Chart 86 album where you got a free second album of hits on promotion.

Not one but three minor top 40 hits from The Stranglers that are largely forgotten today. All are excellent.
Walk On By (#21, September 1978)
An unexpected cover of the Bacharach and David song best known for being sung by Dionne Warwick that actually works well.
Nuclear Device (The Wizard Of Aus) (#36, October 1979)
A song written about the controversial and apparently corrupt Australian politician (the then Premier of Queensland Joh Bjelke-Petersen).
Who Wants The World (#39, June 1980)

Alison Moyet going shoegaze? Well, not far off - and it was fabulous.
Needless to say it bombed hard. Even though it has some OCS involvement. To be fair OCS were still deep underground at this stage.

The Headboys - The Shape Of Things To Come (#45, October 1979)
This should have been a massive hit but just couldn't get that extra sales push to get into the top 40. A Top Of The Pops performance propelled the record to number 45 after the record had been in the top 75 for a month but that was as high as it got.

A fairly recent one, from back in 2007. Reached #16 in the chart, but believe this was due to limited physical release - it did much better on downloads. Amazed that this hasn't even crossed 200,000 views on youtube in 13 years.

Steve Hackett had some hits with Genesis, and has had nearly two dozen charting solo albums, but only two weeks in the singles 75 as a soloist...

52nd Street - I Can't Let You Go (#57, March 1986)
The song features vocals by the late Diane Charlemagne who would later find greater success as lead singer of Urban Cookie Collective ('The Key: The Secret', #2 August 1993).

The male vocal at the end of the track is none other former Radio 1 & Radio 2 and TOTP and Crackerjack host Ed "Stewpot" Stewart Something i just found out from reading the retro charts thread on digitalspy

I'm a big fan of Lynsey De Paul. She had nine number ones in my retro chart and was my act in Haven Factor.

Probably best known from being in a Jive Bunny desecration, and it is easy to overlook it - because it came out when "Rock Around The Clock" had topped the chart, joining it in the top five just after Christmas 1955.

Alex Clare - Too Close
There was one hot minute this was everywhere. I couldn’t tell you a single other song he did - but this was excellent.

I was reminded of this long forgotten 90s hit a few days ago. I used to love it.
