Frank & Walters: definitely not forgotten. Went to see them twice last year and 'After All' was definitely a crowd favourite.

Two tracks, from the early 90s, from the same album: both minor hits, and both really, in my opinion, pretty all kinds of amazing.
While this one (inspired by the death of the brother of the singer-songwriter, Matt Johnson) was hauntingly beautiful

Frank & Walters were named after a couple of homeless IIRC. Remember the Silver Bullet well, they also had "Bring Forth The Guillotine", which given the lyrics must have preceded 20 Seconds, even if it did not hit until later. There was a bit of promising Brit-hop at the time, Cookie Crew and Ruthless Rap Assassins, sadly any chance of some decent alternative to the rapidly-deteriorating US MOBO market was undermined by the repugnant rise of Take T**t and their hideous ilk.

neither forgotten Vya especially 'slow Emotion Replay' if that had been a more mainstream band and not someone as left-field as The The it could have been a huge hit as think The The were too scary for commercial radio too play or take a chance on, c'mon its not exactly 'Infected'

going through some of my 7"s that you can't anywhere on mp3, and found this. Very off its time but they did that Manchester thing very well and I think Liam Gallagher got some tips from the video and a very good quality Martin Hannet produced version, much better tbh

Ah yes, I bought the Hannet version of 'Box Set Go' unheard in a charity shop, because I liked the gatefold sleeve. Well, mainly I liked the press cutting where a reviews says he was wrong before, and that The High would be as big as the Stone Roses by the end of the year. Ooops.

Was there a chart hyping thing regarding The High? Rings a bell.

Yeah, I think the High track subject to hyping was "More", although I've forgotten the exact details. Was it hyping or an additional ineligible format or something like that? I also see that Wiki suggests they released an album called "Hype" in 1992, after everyone had more or less lost interest in them (although Discogs suggests it was never released, which sounds pretty credible). "Box Set Go" was a pretty decent single IMHO, and "Up And Down" even better. I really rather enjoyed their (first) album, I still listen to it occasionally.
"Love Is Contagious" - delightful.

Here's two songs from the early 1990s by two great English Post Punk/New Wave Power Pop bands whom America loved much more than the UK which peaked 70 places too low in the Official Charts....
UK #71 1992
UK #73 1993

XTC were the first band beginning with X to have a top ten single. Fact dot com.

I remember when VH-1 did an A-Z of the 1990s feature and they had to show the video for 'The Disappointed' (which peaked at 32 in 1992, in case that was on the tip of your tongue) because it was either that or Xpansions.
I think I've posted most of the eligible XTC songs in the Lost Tracks threads before [obviously most of them were either not forgotten or not hits] so I was unsure whether to reiterate them in here.
Funnily enough, though, I was just thinking of 'Crazy Love' by MJ Cole today. I was not thinking of 'All In My Head' because I thought it was a really disappointing single from them and it pretty much killed off their career. I guess in those days people thought one Dido was enough.

Here's a few songs that never seem to get played these days, or at least not played on the radio stations I listen to.
First up, one of my favourite singles from the 80s
Swans Way - Soul Train (#20, 1984)
Next up a song I was listening to on my iTunes about an hour or so ago
Captain - Glorious (#30, 2006)
and finally a record which just failed to make the top 40. From the Madchester days of 1990 and a record that, due to references to drug use, Radio 1 were reluctant to play. I bet they were privately pleased when the song failed to climb into the top 40...
Northside - Shall We Take A Trip (#50, 1990)
