Enjoy being deluded, England will never win anything in the same dramatic fashion Wales won the Lions tour, or 6 Nations. You are always pleased with yourselves over sporting success, even if it means winning though default and watching the weather hoping for rain. Come back when Wales have won the Rugby World Cup in the dramatic fashion that England did in 2003. (You may only have to wait two years...) Also, drama is subjective. Looking at the British & Irish Lions tour, I don't call a win where the opponents were within a score for a total of 21% of the match a very dramatic one. No last-minute drama in the Six Nations, either.

who on here thinks england would of lost ? Given an extra day (or a lack of rain), it looks probable, but given the forecast a draw was looking pretty likely from day one.

Quirky stat: England (as governed by the England and Wales Cricket Board) have drawn exactly the same number of tests that they have won (335, with 268 defeats).

Not an Englishman nor a big cricket fan but I'm always pleased to see success for any of the four home teams.
If it hadn't rained they probably would have lost this game but that's life.

I f*cking beg to differ. 23rd Test Century, outright second on England's all time list, Test Batting average 49 'nuff said. 8, when we needed him to stay there and play safe, that is my problem with him, yet another crap shot!

With Pietersen you're always going to get the good with the bad, that is the way he plays. If you'd forced him to change the style of his play he wouldn't be the England legend that he's become.

When Flintoft played for England the other players used to say that just having him in the team boosted the confidence and belief of all other players, making them think they could win any match, and I think the persona of Pieterson is the same.

Well done on winning a pathetic, small little 4 cm urn all because of the weather. I know you won the first two tests, but you would have lost this one if it was not for that. The only way you seem to avoid thrashings, is ALWAYS the rain coming along etc. The Aussies had you by the short and curlys. If they went on to win, I bet their confidence would have been a lot more higher than it was and then believe they can win the next two tests. Enjoy being deluded, England will never win anything in the same dramatic fashion Wales won the Lions tour, or 6 Nations. You are always pleased with yourselves over sporting success, even if it means winning though default and watching the weather hoping for rain. I seem to remember the most dramatic moment of the Lions series being Kurtley Beale falling on his arse when kicking a penalty that would've won the 1st test for Australia.

And in this series with 6 innings, have we had one good score? Not good enough imo. England's batting figures in the series: Cook 13-50-12-8-62-0 (average: 24.17) Root 30-5-6-180-8-13* (48.40) Trott 48-0-58-0-5-11 (20.33) Pietersen 14-64-2-5-113-8 (34.33) Bell 25-109-109-74-60-4* (76.20) Bairstow 37-15-67-20-22 (32.20) Prior 1-31-6-1*-30 (17.25) So I really don't think you can single Pietersen out for criticism in this series at all. Cook and Trott have both been disappointing. Bairstow seems to get himself in, then get out. Based on performance across all 3 tests, Bell has been player of the series by a mile.

I would put Compton back in but at number six. He would be the batsman newest back in the team and all the five spots are settled so he'll have to adapt for now. Should a place vacate up the order then I'm sure he'll fit in.
My ideal would be to have an all rounder in at six ala Flintoff or Botham but we haven't got anyone who can bat strongly enough but would be a frontline or first change bowler. Also our 7,8,9 and 10 are stronger than most tails so we can afford a specialist at number 6.
My vote, Compton back in but at six.

I'd rather see Taylor in the team than Compton. He's a lot younger therefore has more potential.

4th test underway at the Riverside (to avoid using its crappy corporate name).
England unchanged, despite a feeling that Onions might play on his home ground. Jackson Bird replaces Mitchell Starc in the Australia line-up.
England won the toss and are batting. After a slow start, they're picking up the pace now and have reached 106/1.
