Lizzy Yarnold's win is Britain's 10th all-time Winter Olympic gold medal. We average less than one gold medal per Winter Games.
The other nine:
1924 - CURLING - men's team
1936 - ICE HOCKEY - men's team
1952 - FIGURE SKATING - Jeannette Altwegg
1964 - BOBSLEIGH - Tony Nash & Robin Dixon
1976 - FIGURE SKATING - John Curry
1980 - FIGURE SKATING - Robin Cousins
1984 - FIGURE SKATING - Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean
2002 - CURLING - women's team
2010 - SKELETON - Amy Williams
Prior to Sochi, GB had won 22 medals at 21 Winter Olympics - an average of 1.047 medals per Games. The most at one Games was 4 at the very first Winter Olympics in 1924.

British women playing steadily in the Curling despite their defeats which apparently were against what are regarded as the two best teams in the event so fingers crossed although there is some way to go yet.
Can't really get interested in these Olympics. Listened to Lizzy Yarnold on Five Live then was puzzled by the presentation ceremony when it was on the TV. Couldn't understand why there were no medals but apparently they get these at another presentation tomorrow.
Is this the norm for winter sports?

It would seem so, flowers ceremony at the location of the event then the medal ceremony at the "Olympic Stadium" In women's curling, Sweden won against Scotland (i.e. GB) in the European Championships last year and Canada are always a strong curling nation where I think they actually have a internal tournament within Canada to see who represents in the Olympics. Switzerland will be another tough match tomorrow for the GB girls with a very experienced skip so fingers crossed for them tomorrow!

Our mens curling have made a right mess of their last fee games. The germans choked and missed 2 easy shots to win! then the danish fell over and deflected their own stone when 5-1 up and then unbelievably missed some of the easiest shots in cutling. Any one of them would have been enough to best us but they messed up twice. Unreal

I like it when they present the flowers after the event as the fans can celebrate the victory, even if it is only a bouquet ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/Kwn0BjsNURZTBPjgpQCU.gif)

oh dear, Christie disqualified again, this time for going off track so technically didn't cross the finish line
the bad thing is she didn't have to and was oncourse for 2nd before veering off to try and beat the Italian girl only to inexplicably go off the course, she seems a bit too driven too me, I mean she could have easily took a medal in the first race but decided to go for a gap that wasn't there and now instead of taking 2nd and qualifying for the final she went offcourse trying to nick first, I mean if it was to nick a place in the final fair enough but she was already there!

Poor Elise Christie has now closed her twitter account as a result of receiving threats on the back of her first final DQ. It is sickening to read that these armchair expert "trolls" give this sort of abuse to athletes behind a "screen" and jump on the bandwagon on the first signs of negativity. I thought there would be cones in the middle to show where the boundaries of the track are, I'm sure they had them placed in previous Olympics (Turin comes to mind) - maybe I'm wrong on that but it does seem like a deliberate ploy to catch athletes out, but it doesn't mean Christie should be let off though. Rules are rules... Mixed results for the GB curling team - A win vs. South Korea and a loss vs. Switzerland for the GB girls, where they weren't at the races and always a tough team to beat. Currently they sit joint 4th in the round robin with Switzerland and China. They have a rest day tomorrow and play their remaining 2 games on Monday. Russia next - with an young skip in Sidorova, who can be tough and with a home crowd backing but inconsistent. Then it's Denmark after that, who again are pretty inconsistent and both teams should be beatable for GB. A deja vu scenario we saw in the women's match against Canada happened in the GB men, where Murdoch had a chance to do an easy draw to take it to an extra end but, albeit easier than the women's shot, had a chance to win it but failed and Canada won that. GB still in a strong position sitting joint 3rd but another tough match against Norway next. Looking forward to see the superb pants here! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/999290/images/rJkVIIEHuaszVDhOsQtH.gif)

Watching the highlights show on NBC tonight.
They just showed the medal ceremony for the skeleton. Terrific to see Lizzy Yarnald on the podium singing "God Save The Queen". Of course NBC were focusing more on Noelle Pikus-Pace who took Silver but that's to be expected.
Cheers

The shootout in the US -v- Russia was very exciting. I'm surprised they ever score as the net is tiny in comparison to the goaltender!!
It's also interesting that they permit the same player to take shots in the shootout unlike a soccer penalty kicks decider.
USA .. USA ... USA .. USA ......

Yeah but you could say the puck is tiny in comparison to the goal...
GB curlers have got it tough tomorrow - both mens and womens need to win their remaining matches tomorrow to qualify for the semis after the men lost to Norway this morning.
Also Rowan Christie was knocked unconscious during training today on the ski slope and suffering concussion. She's spending the night in hospital and is not due to compete until Thursday. Decision will be made in due course.
