I have always had a best of list for 80s and 90s but both have been expanding as inspired by RALiverpool , I now have a top 1000 for the 90s. 95% of the songs are on Spotify, others I have had to add from my own collection. There are many that may be missing due to be only on vinyl and having not converted them yet or I have just forgot them entirely. 90s revisionism is rife and I have tried to add at least 1 song by bands that have been deleted from 90s,due to indie cool, history as popular opinion is that britpop/indie didnt start till 1994 when it was always there, grunge did not rule the world. So expect to see Grebo/Shoegazing/baggy/agit-pop among the list. I have added a few bands that I have discovered since the 90s but again I am trying to avoid revisionism. I didn't listen to bands like Neutral Milk Hotel/Yo La Tengo/Slint and all these bigged up Pitchfork bands then so I wont include them now. But it is unavoidable I will have a little revisionism in the fact that you wont see Bryan Adams - Everything I Do I Do It For You and some similar monster hits that I just can no longer listen to. As a taster here are 5 tracks that I have on vinyl and not on mp3/spotify and miss the cut this time. [ Five great lost songs Don't worry this list wont be all indie. It will have rock, pop, techno, dance, hip hop and even a little rnb.

Hmmm this is hard, I do have it some kind of order but thinking do I disregard some weaker singles so I can fit in more different acts or do I add more songs by the better acts and clear out the dregs at the bottom. First bunch coming after lunch.

1000 Pet Shop Boys - Can You Forgive Her? 999 Warren G, Nate Dogg- Regulate 998 Bon Jovi - Keep The Faith 997 Finley Quaye – Even After All 996 Smash Mouth - All Star 995 Robbie Williams - Let Me Entertain You 994 The Divine Comedy – Something for the Weekend 993 Depeche Mode – Barrel Of A Gun 992 Cher – Believe 991 Alisha's Attic – I Am, I Feel 990 Soul Asylum – Misery 989 Bloodhound Gang – Why's Everybody Always Pickin' On Me? 988 Monaco – Sweet Lips 987 Bush – Glycerine 986 The Beautiful South – Rotterdam (Or Anywhere) 985 Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers – Into The Great Wide Open 984 Primitive Radio Gods – Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand 983 Candyflip – Strawberry Fields Forever 982 Atlantic Ocean – Waterfall 981 Deftones – Be Quiet And Drive [Far Away] Hear we go the first 20, first the shocks this is the one and only appearance in the top 1000 for the Pet Shop Boys, I had to include them but I really wasn't a big fan of their 90s singles. Most of these songs were top 40 hits so most don't need much introduction and the ones that weren't were Billboard hits so quite a commercial start. Vids for the more obscure songs below. www.muzu.tv/primitive-radio-gods/standing-outside-a-broken-phone-booth-with-money-in-my-hand-music-video/24109/Primitive Love Gods - Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth

interesting set to start; probably my favourite out of those is 'rotterdam' which has always been one of my favourite TBS songs.

(forgot to say it's good to see tom petty and the heartbreakers in there, though i much prefer 'learning to fly' from the same album)

Another very varied selection from Sarah McLachlan to Nine Inch Nails lol and again relatively light on indie just the nature of a top 1000 I guess.

This is a quite a diverse mix Thorney. I'm not into indie music at all, I'm all about pop and dance, but I'd like to follow this if possible. There'll be LOTS of stuff i won't recognise but I'm pretty open minded.
Anyway, the first lot...
Pet shop boys - love em but I've just neglected them over the years. Their latter albums are meant to be brilliant. Would love to see them live. Can you forgive her is a great choice..."dance to disco and i don't like rock". My fave of theirs in the 90s is prob where the streets have no name/can't take my eyes off you.
Warren g and nate dogg....classic!
Bon jovi - preferred their 80s stuff but loved keep the faith too. Also like its my life.
Depeche Mode - for me it would have to be enjoy the silence, think this just scrapes in. Don't know much else theyve done subsequent to that.
Cher - If i could turn back time...wasnt that an 80s single? Go on, choose Believe instead....it's better than the shoop shoop song at least!
Soul asylum - i loved runaway train, remember it always on mtv. Dont know any others by them though.
Beautiful south - so many great songs to choose from. Another group i wish i'd seen live. Bell bottomed tear my fave, so beautiful.
Candy flip - rave on, love it!!
Atlantic ocean - i played this and k klass to death
Anyway, great thread

Depeche Mode do just scrape in with this, 'Enjoy The Silence ' is likely to be top 100. Remember it is a long way to go many songs you mention could be/will be still too come. Gawd I wasnt sure about Cher I knew it was out in my 1st year at University must have been before Xmas, ok first adjustment give the place to 'Believe' then It was on the long list It will probably get less diverse as we move up the list and get more rock/indie orientated but there should be plenty you will like as well.

940 The Connells – '74-'75 939 Marc Cohn – Walking In Memphis 938 Death In Vegas – Dirge 937 Filter – (Can't You) Trip Like I Do 936 BMX Bandits – Serious Drugs 935 Northside – Shall We Take A Trip? 934 ATB – 9PM [Till I Come] 933 Lightning Seeds – Sugar Coated Iceberg 932 Bomfunk MC's – Freestyler 931 Aerosmith – I Don't Want to Miss a Thing 930 Curve – Horror Head 929 Soulwax – Much Against Everyone's Advice 928 Power of Dreams – Never Been To Texas 927 Nirvana – Heart-Shaped Box 926 The Crystal Method – Keep Hope Alive [There Is Hope Mix] 925 Mundy – Pardon Me 924 The Mock Turtles – And Then She Smiles 923 Matchbox Twenty – Bent 922 Fugazi – Repeater 921 Faith No More – Last Cup Of Sorrow
Very diverse this section, will pick the best three videos for this lot. First up Curve I thought it was just teenager hormones but no, she is still one of the most beautiful singers ever....
Brilliant Big Beat/electronica
Now better know as DJs they were a great pop/rock band as well.

OMG I would never have expected to see Captain Hollywood on a list like this! That's quite an obscure eurodance track how did you come across that one thorney? Did more and more even chart in the top 40? Happy memories of dancing to this and loads of other cheesy europap stuff through the nights in bodrum circa 1993 - young, free and single those were the days!

My flatmate was really into dance music, techno and euro house mostly so I heard loads of stuff like that, there are some real oddities to come that you might appreciate . When we getting higher up I will try and give some more info about songs and more vids
