"Milord" is maybe the first track about prostitution to make the charts.
Connie Francis hated "Robot Man", it was only released as the flip of "Mama" in Europe because of a dispute with Paul Anka over the royalties for the original b-side. And to everyone's surprise it took off.

The US singles chart had A and B sides chart separately because of the airplay factor.

The US singles chart had A and B sides chart separately because of the airplay factor. Indeed. Plus their records were stored behind the counter so buyers had to request which record they wanted, so the sale was accredited to the side of the 7" vinyl track they requested.

The US version by one hit wonder Johnny Ferguson is too cardigan & slippers crooner country-lite polite for my liking compared to the more aggressive interesting Joe Meek produced cover version.

1 Eddie Cochran - Three Steps To Heaven (6wks 17-7-5-5-4-1)
2 Connie Francis - Everybody's Somebody's Fool (5wks 22-11-6-5-2) 3 Everly Brothers - Cathy's Clown (10wks 9-5-2-1-1-1-2-2-2-3) 4 Jimmy Jones - Good Timin' (7wks 15-3-3-3-3-3-4) 5 Etta James - All I Could Do Was Cry (8wks 12-7-2-2-1-1-1-5) 6 Dinah Washington & Brook Benton - A Rockin' Good Way (To Mess Around And Fall In Love) (4wks 21-9-6-6) 7 Brenda Lee - I'm Sorry (3wks 17-11-7) 8 Sam Cooke - Wonderful World (6wks 18-13-7-7-8-8) 9 Buddy Holly - True Love Ways (5wks 5-4-4-7-9) 10 Jack Scott - Burning Bridges (5wks 24-18-14-10-10)

The late Eddie Cochran grabs the first posthumous #1 of my retro rewind chart; the newcomers are by the Oklahoma traditional female pop singer most famous for her string of hits in the first half of the 1950s including "Tennessee Waltz"; and the first record Margaret Thatcher bought "(How Much Is That) Doggie in the Window" (a song about Capitalism - makes perfect sense); the easy listening jazz pianist crooner's UK #10 hit; and a London born rock & roll singer doing a vocal impersonation of The Big Bopper covering Fats Waller's 1931 standard on the way to UK #3.

EMI had convened a panel comprised of teenagers to choose which from a list of 24 songs should be the next Cliff & The Shadows single.
Their own preference was Nine Times Out Of Ten which finished 3rd. But it was Please Don't Tease which won and the panel was proved right.
I quite like PTDF but it's not one of my fav Cliff tracks - you seem to like it.
Gee Whiz It's You finished 2nd in the poll and rather oddly EMI never intended this to be released as a single in the UK.
I feel sorry for Adam Faith - he made some great records but was always the poor man's Cliff.

Duane Eddy had a lengthy and stellar chart career; 10 charting albums and 37 charting singles in the US, 5 top 10 albums in the UK and 22 charting singles. But the only no. 1 he ever had was with the Because They're Young EP, in the short-lived Billboard extended play charts. They ran from 1957 to 1960, and in that time Elvis topped the listings for 83 weeks.
Although this is where I think the chart stats are unfair. Under today's rules, in which compilation albums are sidelined away from the main listing, The Twang's The Thang would have had a month on top of the album chart; it was only kept off the top by a various artists soundtrack. The data are freely available so I don't see why the OCC shouldn't acknowledge the best-selling artist album for each week.

The compilation albums chart was split in 1989 in the UK. And even then, OSTs were considered regular albums even if many artists contributed to them.
I don't think they want to change history by splitting them now. No more than using a combined chart (like the BBC chart) as the "official" chart between 1960 and 1969 (where they use Record Retailer / Music Week throughout). And so the Beatles and Rolling Stones could each register themselves an extra chart-topper.

Thing is, it wouldn't be changing history. It would just be creating a new category and would make things a level playing field. Statistics are distorted because of the 1989 ruling. It's illogical that Little Angels are credited with a no. 1 album and Elvis Costello not, when under the same rule either they would both have 0, or Elvis would have (I think) 2. So the stats saying Little Angels have had more no. 1 albums is on a false premise.

In probably my charts most eventful week to date, I have a British Rock'n'Roll classic at #1; and new entries coming from Elvis Presley's huge global #1 hit song is adapted from the Italian standard, "'O Sole mio"; an American folk singing group from Seattle on the way to USA #2 & UK #40; (a first for my chart) an album cut from "Elvis Is Back!" written by Sam Bobrick and Beverly Ross, then covered by Ral Donner (USA #19 in 1960), prior to RCA belatedly releasing the album cut as a single in 1976 when it made UK #9; the Washington instrumental rock band debut (national) single which made USA #2; and the influential R&B singer's latest which made USA #38.
